View Full Version : Do you have a disability? DLevine2 09-18-2009, 08:43 AM Yes, I have a seizure disorder. I had that for 13 years and there getting somewhat better. I have a friend who has Fibromyalgia too... it does sound really horrible to live with. :( My physical disabilities are sciatica and TMJ. I've never been diagnosed for any mental disability, but I'm pretty sure I suffer from OCD and Social Anxiety Disorder. phoebe7165 09-18-2009, 05:39 PM Thankfully no, but I know I can be rather anal. Is there such a thing as being borderline bi-polar? PZelda 09-18-2009, 05:49 PM Severe hearing loss (sign language here, hi) and a genetic vision disorder. 70s show watcher 09-18-2009, 06:50 PM I have Fibromyalgia and a spine problem (my neck). The only good news is that I now get paid to be sick aka I get a SS Disability check. my mother suffers from both of the same things janice the only difference being that she has a back instead of a neck problem 70s show watcher 09-18-2009, 06:51 PM i have cp and legal blindness in my right eye Family Ties Forever! 09-18-2009, 07:49 PM I am legally blind. My visual impairment is severe. I don't know if it would be considered a disability or not, but I suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) stemming from childhood abuse and being robbed at gunpoint as an adult. Wreckless 09-18-2009, 07:59 PM I am legally blind. My visual impairment is severe. I don't know if it would be considered a disability or not, but I suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) stemming from childhood abuse and being robbed at gunpoint as an adult. Wow that's horrible! I am sorry you have to deal with that, and had to have gone through that. That sounds traumatic, horrible and not something anybody should ever go through, both at once and individually. As far as the blindness goes, can you see when you're on the computer? I ask that because I always see you are a good typer. Of course you don't have to look at a monitor to use a keyboard, but it's hard to be a perfect typer 100% of the time, so I'm wondering how you do it. Family Ties Forever! 09-18-2009, 08:27 PM ^Thanks. I'm not sure I'll ever be the same after those experiences. I have a special large print software program loaded on my computer called Zoomtext. It makes everything on the screen larger. The down side is that you can only see part of what's on the screen at a time. I can see what I type because of the Zoomtext. I have the keys on the keyboard memorized so I don't have to look at the keyboard. That's a good thing because I wouldn't be able to see the letters on the keyboard. I sometimes make mistakes when typing. Some websites are very hard to see even with the Zoomtext. For example Facebook is a difficult website to see. Wreckless 09-18-2009, 08:40 PM ^Thanks. Yeah but don't worry, Facebook is a pain in the butt for everybody lol. DLevine2 09-18-2009, 09:32 PM Severe hearing loss (sign language here, hi) and a genetic vision disorder. That's terrible. I'm sorry to hear about your severe hearing loss. Do you ever use a hearing aid? treky 09-19-2009, 04:17 AM I have a rare muscular condition called H.S.P. which stands for Hereditary Spastic Parapalecious. Warm & Fuzzy 09-20-2009, 04:11 PM I have hyperthyroidism due to Grave's Disease, chronic pain due to scoliosis, and an array of mental disorders (dsythymia, dissociative disorder, OCD, anxiety, bulimia). It's enough to drive someone crazy. I am also receiving disability funds from the gov't, as well as my school. PZelda 09-20-2009, 08:35 PM That's terrible. I'm sorry to hear about your severe hearing loss. Do you ever use a hearing aid? Oh well. :) No, I don't use hearing aids, due to the severity of my hearing loss. As soon as I finished eighth grade, I was able to ditch the auditory trainer and my hearing aids for good. At the school I went to, eighth grade is the last year they require students to wear auditory trainers. Or, hearing aids when auditory trainers were not being used. Chocoholic 09-20-2009, 08:43 PM I wear a hearing aid in my left ear. It does help in certain situations, but it's still useless if I'm in a crowd or the person I'm talking to has a soft voice. |
