It took a Nobel Prize-winning physicist to win the second-ever million dollar prize on Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader. The not-to-be-missed season finale episode, showcasing the genius of George Fitzgerals Smoot III (even his name sounds smart!!) airs this Friday at 8 pm ET/PT. A show spokesperson does confirms to me that Smoot successfully answers the tenth and final million dollar question. Congrats!

Smoot is an astrophysicist and cosmologist whose work laid the foundation for the Big Bang Theory. A physics professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Smoot won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006 and was also awarded the Albert Einstein Medal in 2003.

Sad Fifth Grader is wrapping for the season? Fret not! The all-new half hour syndicated version premieres on September 21, 2009, so check your local listings.
