Not your dream car, just the next car you will most likely purchase. I've had my car since 2005 so it will be 5 years old in 2010. although it runs very well, i've never had any majors problems with it (aside from repairs due to accidents that weren't my fault)it is no longer practical for me.

when i first got it i was still single and liked that it had a sports car look to it. its a chevy cavalier ls coupe, and it looks very sporty, similar to the old style mitsubishi eclipse. however, being the woman of the house now, i run lots of errands and do a lot of running around and therefore have outgrown the cavalier.

so this summer i plan on trading my car in for a 2010 kia soul. its a mini suv, and they start at under 14k (4k cheaper than what i paid for the cavalier!). i like how it has the room i need for grocery shopping (the cavalier is a nightmare as far as space goes) and i really need a better car for winter weather. i'm bummed i have to go through this winter again with the cavalier, its so low to the ground and can't get through the snow.

the kia soul is big enough to serve my purposes but not so big that i won't be able to handle it. thats a big factor for me, i don't like large vehicles, i've always drove compacts but this is small enough for me to handle and it only has a 4 cylinder engine. i can hardly wait to get it, i've been researching mini suvs for months and couldn't find one compact enough for me. i was going to settle for the nissan cube until i discovered this a week ago when my brother-in-law bought his kia spectra and told me about the kia soul.

I'm still eying on a Buick Riviera.

Since I have a job that pays peanuts, I can't really afford a car. The biggest drawback to this summer was that when my mom got into a minor car accident, the car that I was going to get went too. Where can I get a car for $500?

Dont know. I still got a year and a half to go on my current car, so afterwards I will hang on to my car until it falls apart, because I dont like having a car payment.

my dad bought a 1992 ford tempo for $600, however he bought it off marvin's brother. the exterior and interior are mint. it has 80k miles on it. never been in an accident, marvin's brother is meticulous with his cars and had the oil changed regularly. it has all new brakes and tires. when marvin's brother bought his new kia he tried to trade the tempo in as a part of that cash for clunkers program but they wouldn't accept it because it got too many miles per gallon. the limit was 19 mpg and the tempo got 24mpg. so he offered it to my dad for just $600.

Not necessarily this model, but probably something similar.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier, this is not actually my car, but mine looks just like this one:

I just paid it off. I would love to get something else, but right now I'm broke, LOL.

I do know what I want for my next car though, I want a Honda Fit:

I'm going to sound like a spoiled brat, but I'll be getting my first car soon and it's going to be the 2010 Chevy Equinox and my dad is paying for it right now. Eventually it will be up to me to pay and I'll have this car for a long time, so he wanted me to have one that I'd like so he wouldn't be wasting money. I feel pretty guilty about it but I am also very appreciative.

Lulu, my husband and I would love to have Honda Fits, too! My husband has a 94 Corolla and it's been a good car but it might be coming up time for a new one soon. I have a 2002 Toyota Echo. Haven't had any problems with it so far, and I love it to pieces. My only gripe is that it's red, when I really wanted blue, but when I bought it, they would only offer me white, black or red. My previous car, a Geo Metro was red and I wanted a change. But sadly, they have stopped making Toyota Echos, so I want to hang onto mine as long as possible.

lol yeah I wanted a certain color, so we ended up ordering mine. It doesn't cost extra, you just don't get it right away. But I think it's worth it to get the car you want.

Yeah, I didn't get a choice with mine. Mom took me to the dealership and said "You're getting this car, you can get it in red or yellow, you pick." I picked the color, but that was it. I hate red, but I hated yellow more, LOL. The car was new when we got it, but I would have been totally happy getting a used car that I actually wanted instead of a new car that I didn't like. My 17 year old sister got the car she wanted and my 15 year old sister is about to get the car she wants, go figure.

Ick, your mom just didn't like the blue or what? That's not fair, though, if your sisters get what they want. :/

There wasn't a blue one on the lot, only red, yellow and black. Black wasn't an option because black cars get too hot during the summer time

That's what I say, but what do I know? I'm just lucky they "let" me live in their house, at least that's what they keep telling me.

Ugh, that sucks. But I guess it's nice to have a car at least.

Actually, a black car in the summer isn't a problem. It's the leather interiors that are the problem, especially when it's north of 90 degrees.

True, don't get me wrong, I'm thankful for my car, I just think everything between me and my sisters should be fair, lol

No offense, but it's some pretty crappy reasoning if you ask me. You're going to be inside a car with the AC on. The fact that it's black won't make a difference. The only downside with black cars(and white as well) is the dirt is more noticable.

Eh, I never paid for any of my cars until last year when I got the one I have. So don't feel bad, Ashlee.

Anyway, My lease isn't up until 2011, so I'll see what's out there then. I might keep my car then too. Don't know.

Damn...I would hate that. Mine is Black and they had to do a dealer trade to get it, but I wanted a black car.

When my dad got his Blazer in Phoenix in November 1998, my uncle (who was a car saleman then) told him that one reason it was still on the lot that late in the year was because it was black, and no one in Phoenix wants a dark car. So it's not that illogical.

The downside to white cars is that they look really cheap.

Phoenix is much hotter than the rest of the country, but as long as the AC is working, it shouldn't be a problem. I would rather have black than a car with leather interior.

I have a 2002 Ford Focus, just recently paid off. As for my next car, I'm a ways off from that yet, so I am not sure.

Hear, hear!! I used to have a Nissan Sentra with leather seats. In Fla., in the sun, with the windows up, yikes, it was brutal trying to get in there! I always had a towel on the seat. The steering wheel would get extremely hot, too. After I got rid of that car, I said I would never get a car with leather seats again.

I have a 2002 Toyota Rav4, paid off, and it only has 68,000 miles on it and it still runs good, so a new car is not in my future right now. I remember though that in 2003, I saw those Smart Cars in Europe, and I loved them. I said that when they came to the states, I was going to get one. Maybe somewhere down the road(no pun intended).
