View Full Version : I Love Lucy Remake
Timoth26 09-10-2009, 04:46 PM Hey, do you think there would ever be a remake of "I Love Lucy"? If they did what do you think it would be like and who do you think would be in it? Also, what storylines do you think they would come up with in the remake of "I Love Lucy"?
I know they're remake some old tv shows such as Dukes Of Hazzard and some old movies like Freaky Friday.
Here who I thought would be starring as the Ricardos.
Beverly Mitchell - Lucy Ricardo
Goarge Stults - Ricky Ricardo
But, then I thought that maybe Suzanne Larusch would be better as Lucy because does a great job impersonating Lucille Ball.
Also, do you think they could remake some of the episodes from the original ILL such as the Vitameatavegamin and the Candy factory episodes? Also, do you think they would film the new ILL in Black & White like the original or in color?
JamesG 09-10-2009, 04:49 PM From the way the many tv shows to feature films have turned out...
NO, I hope Lucy does not get a new version.
Hughsgirl 09-11-2009, 09:24 AM No way! If they did, it would fail miserably and I'm sure they would do it in very poor taste and disrespect to Lucy and her gift to the world. When they did a movie for Leave It to Beaver, IMO, it was horrific! They didn't even make it in the correct era! Beaver had a computer....UGH! And the casting was awful! The least they could have done was put them in the correct time. There isn't any actress that could even come close to playing Lucy....nor do they deserve to. JMO of course. I feel that the classics should be left alone because they were the best as they were and most of those actors were irreplacable.

You got that right! It would be like trying to replace Stan Laurel and Oliver
Hardy. Remakes of classics are pointless--because you can't improve on the
best. And if it can't be improved, why even bother making it??

MrCleveland 09-13-2009, 06:32 PM I have yet to see a remake of a Marx Brothers film...
But that CAN'T happen! The Marx Brothers are unique, besides having Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, and Owen Wilson playing the roles of Groucho, Chico, and Harpo respectfully for any Marx Brothers Movie (And if Steve Carell played all the Zeppo Parts)...it would be disastrous!
And besides...we have a lot of "I Love Lucy" parodies, like that one from "That 70's Show" where Donna and Fez were Lucy and Ricky....

LunarSpecimen 09-18-2009, 03:29 AM The only people I want to see remake Lucy are the impersonators that are part of the Lucy musuems scattered throughout America. They can probably do a better job than what Hollywood thinks might be good to play Lucy.
I just don't see a good I Love Lucy remake, or even someone just being Lucille Ball in general. She was a talented lady who is irreplaceable. All those Lucy impersonators you see are women who grew up watching the show and studied her body movements and facial expressions. I am questioning Hollywood now, "Why are they remaking all of these 1980s cartoons that were probably not very good to begin with?" I'm sorry, but this new Transformers movie does not deserve any mention or honor. It seems that a lot of these remakes have only come recently, in the past 20 to 30 years. It's a terrible way to keep the spirit of a classic going with a younger audience.
A I Love Lucy feature movie will only fall down the tubes. The era will be wrong, the actors would probably be just a pretty face like Zac Efron or Miley Cyrus, and furthermore, it would damage I Love Lucy's reputation with the general public. Lucie and Desi Arnaz Jr. would write in notes of rage and agony, because today's Hollywood doesn't understand how old Hollywood went about itself. Furthermore, it would score a new low in entertainment.
comedyfreak 09-18-2009, 08:15 AM There have been a couple of Lucy bio movies that weren't too bad. I think they would have to use the best Lucy and Vivian impersonators out there and come up with new situations for them, supervised by Desi Jr and Luci Arnaz.

One that I've seen was the film Lucy (2003). I didn't think it was that bad.
I know of another one from the 1990s called Before the Laughter. I see that it's currently on YouTube so sometime I'll watch it.
browneyes106 09-18-2009, 05:57 PM I hope they never make a movie version of I Love Lucy.
Marvo301 09-18-2009, 06:53 PM Lucille Ball was one of a kind. So too was Desi Arnaz. Therefore no attempt to recreate the magic that was "I Love Lucy" could ever succeed. Therefore it should not ever be attempted. If you want to see the real deal that's what DVD's are for!!
Jude The Obscure 09-18-2009, 08:02 PM There will NEVER be a remake of I Love Lucy--it is an UNTOUCHABLE.....just like Gone with the Wind.

I saw that movie "Before the Laughter" and I have to tell you that it was nothing short of a bashing party on Desi and someone's perception of their personal lives. That is just some of the crap that the media wrote about years ago when in reality, they had no idea what they were like! The media sucked then and they suck now! As always just trying to hurt people to get a story...truth or not.

Amen about the media.
The only Lucy biopic I've seen was the one with Francis Fisher. Can't think of the name of it, though. Can anyone help me?

That's Before the Laughter; the one that has the negative feedback.

OK. Thanks. :)
celtickitty60 10-01-2009, 10:16 AM I seriously hope they NEVER do a remake of I Love Lucy. It would be a catastrophe. No one could ever get those parts right because they've become too engrained into our makeup. We've all grown up with the Ricardo's and the Merzes and I don't think we could "accept" strangers in those roles.
The only thing I can liken this to is when they made that sequel of Gone With The Wind into a television movie. I think Margaret Mitchell rolled over in her grave on that one. I still don't think I've recovered!

Tweety 10-06-2009, 10:22 PM I'm tempted to think that an I Love Lucy movie could never happen, for the simple reason that no one in Hollywood would DARE try to play a part like that. Let's face it, who could they possibly get?
On the other hand, we can't put anything past Hollywood...they've TWICE tried to bring "Casablanca" to the SMALL screen (via a TV Series...first in 1955, then in 1983). So if they'd try to do that, they'll eventually try everything.
Has ANY Classic TV sitcom ever translated into a decent theatrical movie (other than "The Brady Bunch Movie" and "A Very Brady Sequel", which were good because they were parodies of the original TV Show)?
Lucy Arnaz herself is 58, so she's too old to do something like that (i.e .play her mom) at this point.
There are certain TV Shows and Characters that can not be duplicated. I Love Lucy, along with all of the main characters in it, is one of those. And I think any attempt to make a movie out of I Love Lucy would be a box-office disaster.
celtickitty60 10-08-2009, 11:22 AM You said that well. It would truly be a disaster and I never even thought about Lucy Arnaz playing her mom's part. No disrespect to Lucy but I don't even think that would be a good fit.
Crusinforabrusin 01-15-2017, 01:57 AM I Love Lucy cannot be remade. Its one of those shows that has made a huge impact on pop culture that to remake it would not be right. I Love Lucy is like Cheers , All In The Family, Mash , in that it can't be remade. The originals were so good that to remake it would tarnish the reputation of the original
