View Full Version : Did You Like The New One Better Then The Original?
callmetootie 06-26-2001, 07:28 AM I caught an episode of the New WKRP on a UPN station, while I was in New Hampshire, and it wasn't too bad. They had a playboy playmate replace Loni's kind of part, which is a bad move, but at least they look somewhat like eachother. Most of the cast made guest appearences, or 2 of them [herb and carlson]. I can't say taht this was better then the original, but it was a good try.

Dr. Thong 07-11-2001, 12:41 PM This show was terrible. It suffered from "After-MASH" syndrome: Take the three least interesting characters from a show and start a new one which continues their story.
Titania 07-20-2001, 06:13 PM The original was worlds better!
horselover47 08-01-2001, 11:14 AM The "new" WKRP was very cookie-cutter in it's premise. I did tape them when they originally aired, but it was only for the original WKRP characters when they appeared. I thought the humor was canned, sometimes overused and not as original as the first WRKP. Most times the show was more of a snoozefest. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/sleep2.gif

The three least interesting characters?!! I think these were great characters. To say that any of the original characters was better that another is blasphemous (ok that's exaggerating, but all the originals were great and certainly never boring.)
Obviously this show would never have been as good as the original. I think too many judged it on that basis and never gave it a chance. I thought it was pretty funny, and carried much of the spirit of the original WKRP.
Bigfoot 11-25-2001, 03:10 PM Perhaps I'm not giving the new series a fair shake but, after enduring half of one episode, I had to switch off. The magic of the old series wasn't there. As for boring characters, all of the original cast were superb, and made up the perfect ensemble for a perfect sitcom (Momma Carlson I genuinely disliked much of the time, but she was not meant to be a likeable character). It's not the first case of failing to recreate magic.
APPLEI 01-14-2003, 09:56 PM the new wkrp in cincinnati does'nt hold a candle to the original.
in my opinion the new wkrp in cincinnati should'nt
have been made.
especially without hugh wilson producing it.
Scoobiedoo30 02-05-2003, 02:41 PM I like this Old and New WKRP in Cincinnati.

Mr. Television 06-06-2003, 11:46 PM I liked the old one better. This show was pretty lame.

tiffany28 10-23-2003, 05:05 PM The new one was way cool. It had French Stuart, Marla Jeanette Rubinoff and Mykelti Williamson on it. They were so funny....Wish it would come back. Sometimes I laughed out loud. I was kind of young when the old one aired but this one rocked It was the last time Gordon Jump played Mr. Carlson. Is it on anywhere. I want to watch it again

rockandrollmark 11-18-2004, 02:10 PM I didn't mind it. Obviously not as good as the original but it was kind of cool to see how the station's look changed.
Tarlek 11-18-2004, 07:13 PM Can't say that I love the show. I'm a completist, it's nice to see more of the cast, but too much had changed and they were trying to live off the legacy of the first series, which simply never works.
Storywriter 01-17-2005, 01:35 AM I have never seen it I don't think or I don't remember seeing it.Mel

The New WKRP wasn't too bad but really, you can't top the original.

I think the show would have better if they didn't have so many cast changes. It was just so hard keeping up with everybody. I liked it when some of the original cast members would guest star though. It was always great seeing them.
gopyle 10-23-2011, 10:11 AM When Hesseman guested he didn't even seem like the same Johnny. It was like he had forgotten how to play him or was just going through the motions.
