I seldom cry at movies or TV shows. But, boy was this episode a tear jerker! I watch Golden Girls to laugh, but this episode brought tears to my eyes. Sophia leaving the boardwalk saying she would rather remember Alvin sitting there instead of seeing him again in his weakened state of mind had me reaching for the tissue box. The fact that she was sitting there hoping he might be there one more time was sad enough!

However, my anylitical mind had me asking why the man's daughter never bothered to break the news to Sophia that he'd been moved to New York.

Analysis aside, this was one great episode!

Well I think the daughters spoke to each other. I assume Alvin's daughter simply never interrupted the visits between Alvin and Sophia. Dorothy tells Sophia that Alvin may have to make the move to NY.

I think they just had Sophia sit at the boardwalk to make it more touching that she was waiting and hoping that her friend would show.

I liked this episode too.

Even though it's very sad, this is one of the best episodes of the whole series.

Even though it's very sad, this is one of the best episodes of the whole series.

I also love the sub-plot about Daisy the Sunshine Cadet holding Rose's teddy bear for ransom, and Rose implying that Blanche lies about wearing petite-size clothes.
