Undercover has learned that Charlie Watts has quit The Rolling Stones.

A source within the Stones inner-circle says, “Charlie Watts has quit the band. He will never record or tour with the band again”.

The news does not come as a surprise. It was common knowledge that Keith Richards had to talk Charlie into contributing to the A Bigger Bang tour but this time it seems there is no calling Charlie back to active duty.

“The Stones are looking to Keith's Expensive Winos drummer Charlie Drayton to fill the void in all future Stones' callings,” our source says.

With Mick Jagger planning more Stones activity next year, the departure of Charlie will be a huge blow to the band. Charlie was the backbone of the band.

The 68-year old drummer simply doesn't want to do it anymore.

Charlie joined the Rolling Stones in January, 1963. He didn’t expect it would last. In fact, he kept his day job for several months until the band started to feel like a career.

Charlie’s decision to quit the band comes a three years short of the Stones 50th anniversary.

Wow, first Bill Wyman and now Charlie Watts. So does this mean that Mick and Keith are the only original members left? I think Ron Wood is still there, even though he wasn't there at the beginning.

It's just not right to up and quit a band after only 46 years. If you join a band you should be in it for the long haul! Come on show a little loyalty to your mates! At least wait until you know whether or not the band is going to hit it big!

I think if Charlie does infact leave, the band should just call it a day. Even though Charlie isn't as high profile as Mick and Keith, he's too much a part of the band for them to be able to continue without him.

But wow yeah, he's been with the band forever so why leave?

I guess Mick and Keith will have to call it a day now, or re-name the band The Zombies..oh wait...

Thanks for clearing that up. I read about Charlie quitting on another forum, but their publicist was also saying it wasn't true.

Well Charlie has been with them since they first started back in 1962. Maybe he is ready to retire. This is a blow since his has been so crucial to the Stones. I cant picture the band without him really, but Mick and Keith are not the stay home kind of guys so they may decide to find somebody new.

Regardless the Stones still kick ass.

Exactly - he's just as integral to the Stones' success as Mick and Keith.
