And he will be replaced by Dianne Sawyer.

Is it just me or does this sound like a FORCED RETIREMENT?

News came from my local ABC Affiliate

Forced?? You are way off. Charles Gibson has wanted to retire since 2007! He was ABC's first choice to do World News in 2005 when Peter Jennings passed away, but they couldn't work out an agreement because Charlie wanted to retire in 2007, so they went with Bob Woodruff and Elizabeth Vargas. Eventually Charlie got the job in May 2006 because of injuries to Bob and Elizabeth's pregnancy. ABC persuaded Charlie to stay longer than 2007...and he did.

I like Charles Gibson, but he has been at the broadcasting business for a long time, so I wish him well in his retirement. He deserves it! I like Diane Sawyer too. They have worked together for years and I'm sure she will miss him, but it's nice that she's able to take over for him.
