How did I know they'd do a Roseanne Halloween marathon? Very glad they are, though - those are some of the best episodes of the series, perfect for a Halloween marathon.

And the weekends of October 3 and 31 are looking great! Lots of Married with Children on the weekends, which I like seeing. Overall, still not too bad of a schedule.

Wow, still no Home Improvement. I was hoping they would re-do the schedule and make PRIME 8-12am or 9-12am again and do Home Improvement/Married/Roseanne in those hours and have it the same every night.

And no original. With the exception of HYGSR, that's actually a blessing.

Family Day sure has gone downhill.

I always said Roseanne doesn't need a costume for Halloween. Just wish she wasn't on Tvland. Anyway, besides her, good marathons! 3rd Rock (if only they could put this on regularly again), Beverly Hillbillies, Three's Company (now if they only could put it on at a decent time regularly), and Hogan's Heroes (survey says it's good to finally see this again)!

But 3rd Rock From The Sun....does it really do well enough to in prime-time? Seems like even The Cosby Show would do better.

My favorite MASH episodes are the early ones with Henry and Trapper, and I've said quite often that whoever runs programming at TV Land must only like the later MASH years. Every time it wraps back to the beginning of the show, they reduce the airtime of the show.

I was looking forward to seeing some episodes with Henry, Trapper, and the classic Margaret-Frank team tonight (Sunday) in the 10pm-midnight block, but I see that's gone tonight, and next Sunday, too. Guess they will bring the 10pm blocks back when it gets to the B.J. and Potter episodes, and remove them again when it gets back to the Henry and Trapper episodes.

TV Land has acquired Everybody Loves Raymond and Boston Legal, and will air Home Improvement and The Nanny...all in 2010:

TV LAND LOVES “RAYMOND”

TV Land PRIME Locks Up The Exclusive Primetime Broadcast Rights For “Everybody Loves Raymond”

Additional Acquisitions for 2010 Include “Boston Legal,” “Home Improvement” and “The Nanny”

New York, NY, October 6, 2009 -- TV Land has landed the primetime broadcast rights for the Emmy® Award-winning comedy, “Everybody Loves Raymond,” from CBS Television Distribution beginning June 2010, it was announced today by Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land.

The winner of 15 Emmy® Awards, “Everybody Loves Raymond” ran in primetime for eight seasons, totaling 212 episodes and will premiere in TV Land PRIME, the network’s primetime programming block designed to appeal to the attitudes, life stage and interests of people in their 40s. Additionally, the network announced three other new acquisitions to hit the airwaves in 2010: “Boston Legal,” “Home Improvement” and “The Nanny.”

“‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ is one of TV’s quintessential comedies, and we are thrilled to have the Barones join the TV Land family,” stated Jones. “‘Raymond,’ ‘Boston Legal,’ ‘Home Improvement’ and ‘The Nanny’ all speak to our audience of forty-somethings in different ways. From an office-based dramedy to family-oriented comedies, the themes and relationships in these series continue to make us laugh.”

These four acquisitions represent a continued commitment to build TV Land PRIME, the network’s primetime programming destination dedicated to 40-somethings – a vibrant group with unmatched purchasing power and living in the most dynamic stage of their lives with relationships at work, with family and with friends all thriving. All of the programming in TV Land PRIME is hand-picked to appeal to the attitudes, life stage and interests of this important demo.

“Everybody Loves Raymond” (Premieres second quarter 2010):

“Everybody Loves Raymond” was born out of Ray Romano’s own life experiences of raising his children along with his wife, all while his parents and brother lived close by. In the show, Romano plays Ray Barone, father of three and a sports writer for a local newspaper. Patricia Heaton plays his wife, Debra, who endures her husband’s overbearing parents played brilliantly by Doris Roberts and the late Peter Boyle. As in real life, Ray’s brother Robert, played by Brad Garrett, is a policeman who lives with his parents. And in a quirky, life-imitating art moment, the Barone children – Ally and twin brothers Michael and Geoffrey – were actually played by real life siblings, Madylin, Sawyer and Sullivan Sweeten. The eight seasons were filled with hilarious appearances by guest stars including Kevin James, Fred Willard, Georgia Engel and Chris Elliott.

TV Land paid its own special tribute to “Everybody Loves Raymond” in 2005, when the series wrapped its eighth and final season. TV Land pre-empted its regularly scheduled programming to honor the occasion by filling a room with guys named Raymond, each representing an episode in the series run. Each Ray introduced himself and named an episode all while TV Land continued to remind the viewers not to accidentally miss the series finale which was a truly historic television moment.

“Boston Legal” (Premieres first quarter 2010):

“Boston Legal” spent five years on broadcast television, bringing viewers fast-paced and irreverent comedy, yet at the same time providing intense and emotionally-driven plot lines. The cast included many celebrated talents including James Spader, William Shatner, Candice Bergen and John Laroquette and was created by the famed David E. Kelly. The show was nominated for numerous awards with both Spader and Shatner winning Emmys for their stellar performances. A spin-off of “The Practice,” “Boston Legal” follows the professional and personal adventures of a group of attorneys at the law firm of Crane, Poole & Schmidt. The series ran on ABC from 2004 – 2008.

“Home Improvement” (Premieres first quarter 2010):

Tim Allen starred in “Home Improvement” as Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, an accident-prone television host and devoted family man. The series, which followed the trials and tribulations of family life, also starred Patricia Richardson as Tim’s wife and Zachary Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith as his three energetic and sometimes mischievous sons. Richard Karn played Tim’s best friend and co-host of “Tool Time” and Earl Hindman was Wilson, the eccentric voice of reason and the Taylors’ neighbor whose face – as a running gag – was always concealed mostly behind the fence separating their yards. The series also launched the television career of Pamela Anderson who played the “Tool Time Girl” for two seasons and then by Debbe Dunning who replaced Anderson. In addition to garnering several awards, the popularity of “Home Improvement” in the 90s made the series finale the fourth highest-rated comedy series finale of the decade behind “Cheers,” “The Cosby Show” and “Seinfeld.”

“The Nanny” (Premieres third quarter 2010):

Fran Drescher helmed this beloved ‘90s sitcom as Fran Fine, a bubbly and nasal-voiced Queens native who becomes the nanny to three children of an upper-class Manhattanite. Fran’s nurturing style included out of the ordinary techniques coupled with a tell-it-like-it-is attitude which made the children – and eventually her boss – fall in love with her. Fran Drescher was nominated twice for an Emmy and the show received countless awards. “The Nanny” ran on CBS from 1993-1999.

Wow - I think NAN really passed up on a big deal here, because Raymond would be a MUCH better fit for NAN. Hopefully we'll see the Viacom-sharing happen here. But, with a lineup of Raymond, Home Improvement, The Nanny, and Roseanne probably happening in primetime early next year, this could be a huge strike of gold for them.

And Boston Legal - why? I love the show, but it isn't necessary, and it probably won't do very well. Still, at least they're trying.

Looks like TV Land went shopping...

Nothing here really offends me the way some of their more recent acquisitions did, but I have to wonder why in a 500 channel universe, the choices seem to be diminishing fast. Years ago, the syndicated exclusivity law prevented cable companies from overlapping shows that aired on more than one channel. One channel was inevitably blacked out. Now, the same shows (not to mention the same movie packages) air all over the place while tons of product sits on the shelf unviewed.

Incidentally, what about the two older classics that were supposed to run on TV Land next year? These four shows are intended to boost prime time (Prime), right?

Edit: Just answered my own question. The Link says they have chosen not to announce them yet.

And with The Nanny moving, I'm sure it will be off of NAN - so they will likely have a new show coming to replace it, I would think.

Boston Legal makes sense to me. It is popular in the demographic they are shooting for (40s and 50s). Friends will fit in well with these shows in 2011 when it comes. A line-up of Boston Legal, Raymond, Friends, and The Nanny would be solid I think. Roseanne is probably more of a midnight-later type show and I wonder if HI would do well enough to stay in prime-time. It may be more of a 7-8pm show.

It seems like they're transitioning Roseanne back to N@N (maybe it will take over the Nanny's 11pm slot?) while shifting over The Nanny and Home Improvement to TV Land.

I agree, though, that Everybody Loves Raymond would fit in well on N@N.

Right now, both of these channels seem to be very much on the same page with respect to progamming. You could from 8pm-6am legitimately turn to one or the other and watch something that has been on N@N or would fit the N@N mold.

I wonder what is going on with Family Matters though? It's not going to TV Land, N@N has shunned it, so maybe BET but they really don't have any older shows. Also, why can't TV Land just get MWC from Spike already? It really has no purpose on Spike. It fits their macho-ness but really all they need is shows like CSI, etc.

It's going to be very interesting what happens to these 2 network in the next year or so?

I don't understand if they're aiming for a family-oriented block or just a popular-sitcom block. With shows like Raymond, The Nanny, Home Improvement, and possibly Roseanne and Married with Children, they could have something good going. But, with a block of Boston Legal, Raymond, and Friends, they could recreate something similar to what TBS had before they changed their schedule this fall.

If TV Land is indeed transitioning Roseanne back over to NAN (which with The Nanny leaving is very possibly; still dont get why NAN would want The Nanny to leave though), then Married with Children's future on TV Land is very grim. These recent acquisions are bound to do well for them, though, as long as they get a normal primetime schedule going while giving all shows an ample amount of time to find the audience.

The line between TV Land and NAN is really blurring. Maybe they want The Nanny off of NAN because it is a 90s show, and their 3 big shows are 2000s shows? Beats me. Raymond should have definitely gone to NAN, but maybe they want to try launching a big show like that on TV Land.

If TV Land had daytime rights to Roseanne maybe they could use it better, maybe as a 5 or 6pm-type show. The problem with most of these shows they are getting/have is they are nighttime only. PRIME needs a good lead-in show.

Everyone is just assuming The Nanny will leave Nick at Nite when it comes to TVland, the blog today said it could still air on both networks. As for TVland getting Raymond instead of Nick at Nite, they're not sister stations anymore, either Nick at Nite didn't go after it or was outbid by TVLand.

Since The Nanny won't premiere on TV Land until next fall (roughly), there's no telling what NAN/TV Land will do with it. I do think we may see Raymond come to NAN eventually - maybe TV Land wanted it for a big launch, with them and NAN eventually sharing it.

Just had an interesting idea - maybe since the Nanny is only coming in Fall 2010 and Raymond is coming in June to TV Land, maybe N@N and TV Land are planning on trading. The Nanny would go to TV Land and ELR could move to N@N - maybe they just want to see what a good timeslot would be on TV Land since they don't really have a constant lineup and then gauge if it should go to N@N instead of putting on N@N right away and messing with something that works. Do you guys think this might be a possibility?

Andy Griffith back from 8-10pm. Did anyone not see that coming?

I would put Hogan's Heroes and The Brady Bunch on in the morning with S&S and AITF airing in the afternoon. AITF probably won't last.

Looks like Andy Griffith is back in full force - when its back in primetime, you know its needed. Definitely nice to see All in the Family back in afternoons, although I have to agree that it probably won't last long.

No matter how much they try to distance from TAGS, it always comes back. It's not a surprise though, because besides it and M*A*S*H, I would think the ratings are bad in prime-time. Roseanne is slowly being reduced more...wouldn't surprise me if it eventually is phased off of TV Land and back on NAN only. Seems like they have sort of given up on it.

If AITF flops, I'd replace it with Leave it to Beaver. It always seems to do ok in the evenings and that's where they usually like to air it (between 4-7pm).

I still find it odd how Roseanne was doing well on NAN up until the time it left back in June or whenever, then comes on TV Land and just doesn't click with the audience. Now, it's back to airing 4 hours a night on NAN and its doing well once again. Doesn't make any sense.

Stinks to lose Hogan's from the schedule, as well as getting more Andy Friffith. But the other changes are ok or good

Thank God there are no originals until March. It sure is a relief not seeing ads for that garbage.

Now TV Land's website schedule has completely changed again. They have 3 hours of Bonanza (really?), All in the Family and Sanford and Son 6-8pm, and have taken off Little House (That's the final straw for me.)

What the heck are they doing???

Still a shame about Hogan's Heroes and still way too much Friffith. 3rd Rock's airing rarely enough as it is. But it's good getting more AITF and Cosby. Sanford's ok. I'm ticked off about the Three's Company marathon too, I was looking forward to that

Sigh. With revisions to revisions a day apart, I half expect them to start making changes DURING the programs.

As for 3rd Rock, I think it is very funny and very underrated.

I do too. What I meant by that is that it's a shame they're cutting back the hours even more when it's already airing rarely

Just as I predicted, when MASH got into the B.J. and Potter episodes (which I find deadly dull), now the Sunday MASH block is back with regularity. When it was last in the Trapper and Henry episodes, the Sunday block disappeared. It seems to me whoever is in charge of programming doesn't like the early episodes, but they should not allow their personal biases to affect the airing of the episodes. The Hallmark Channel doesn't do this stuff.
