Are any of you aware that Connie Needham is battling Ovarian
Cancer and is being supported in her fight by former Eight Is
Enough cast members?
Mr. Television 08-27-2009, 11:48 PM I didn't know that. That's awful. :(
Marvo301 08-27-2009, 11:53 PM No I didn't know that. I hope she wins her battle!
catlover79 08-28-2009, 11:22 AM Here's an article about it -

catlover79 08-28-2009, 02:38 PM She played Elizabeth Bradford.
Scoobiedoo30 08-28-2009, 02:55 PM No I did not know that
Retro4Life 08-28-2009, 02:56 PM That's very sad news. I always liked her and thought she was a really good actress. Very cute too! :)
Best wishes to her for a full and speedy recovery!
catlover79 08-28-2009, 03:10 PM Apparently Connie retired from acting at some point and became an instructor at a dance academy in California. Here are some recent photos:

She looks great! I take it she's still married to Hal Needham?

Married 30 years with two daughters. Isn't that great? Actually, her husband's name is David Needham, who is the son of Hal Needham.
Scoobiedoo30 08-28-2009, 03:25 PM She does look great

Ack! Well, at least I got the last name right! lol
Yeah, that's a long marriage for any sector, let alone the Hollywood one. Though the fact that she retired from acting long ago probably is a factor too. Less pressure and temptation, etc.

True, but look what happened to Willie Aames. Even though he was out of the spotlight for a long time, his own 20+ year marriage recently ended and he fell off the wagon. So I give Connie and her hubby extra props for sticking it out all these years.

Indeed, just being out of Hollywood is no guarantee of a happy marriage. All one has to do is look around and see the current state of marriage, in any area to see proof of that.

^ Indeed! Ironically, Willie and Connie dated before she married David Needham.
It's so sad to hear she has cancer, I hope her treatment is a success.

Me too - I hope they caught it early enough.
Scoobiedoo30 08-28-2009, 08:45 PM Same Here.
Schmoopie 08-29-2009, 02:48 AM Wow, she's still beautiful and it's wonderful that they've been married for so long! I'm very sorry to hear about her cancer and I hope she makes a full recovery. Very touching to hear that her former cast mates are helping her through this.
catlover79 08-29-2009, 08:45 AM She had such awesome LONG hair back in the day. I wonder how she managed to get it so bouncy and frizzless with it being that long. :D
janet42 08-30-2009, 09:27 AM I'm sorry to hear that Connie has cancer. I'm glad her husband and the cast of Eight is Enough are at her side. I pray that she makes a full recovery.

:yeahthat I think Dick Van Patten has always been a father in every sense of the word to his TV kids. He bailed Adam Rich out of jail, he told off a man stalking Willie Aames, was there for Lani O'Grady throughout her troubles and now he's helping out Connie. He's got a heart the size of a football field and solid gold at that.

The kids are lucky to have him in their lives.

Yes, they are - and he also was helping Diana Hyland out every way he could before her untimely passing. According to the EIE E! True Hollywood Special, he was there at her house the day she died. He scrambled to find a priest to do last rites.

I always thought she was the prettiest of all of them!

All the girls on the show were stunningly beautiful, each in her own way. But Connie definitely had the best hair!!
OH Nuts! 08-31-2009, 10:09 PM My thoughts and prayers are with Connie and I hope she beats this awful disease! (EIE is one of my favorite shows & is what motivated me to get my VCR back in 1987 when the series was rerun here in NYC)

She also gets the title for having the most hair! I hope she wins this battle and returns to health and strength.

I think she had more hair than everyone else on the show combined!! She also did an episode of Fame (post-EIE) as a dancer striken with MS. That episode won an Emmy, if I'm not mistaken.

I wonder if Connie was ever in the play "Hair"? Seems like she would be perfect for it!
