We love Neil Patrick Harris just as much as the next gal, but we can't help but wonder: Should American Idol leave the judging up to the true recording-industry professionals?

The How I Met Your Mother star is sitting at the judges table today for the Dallas auditions, a Fox rep confirmed to us.

And yes, we know NPH has succeeded on Broadway and has sung a tune or two elsewhere in his entertainment endeavors. But does that make him a great judge for this type of competition?

If this is best they can come up with for a guest judge they better open up the vault and pay whatever it takes to get Paula back!

There are others worthy of it. Probably, they want it for the hype. We can't deny the fact that NPH is funny and popular. That is probably what Idol is after.

I really don't get the whole "NPH Craze." He hosted the Tony's, he's hosting the Emmy's, he's constantly being nominated for awards, and now he's judging American Idol? What do people find so popular about this guy???
