View Full Version : "Rick Grows A Beard"
I love this episode. I don't want to give away too many spoilers about the plot, but I will say that it's about...Rick's decision to grow a beard.
This episode first aired in early 1965, when growing a beard was still mostly considered a "bohemian" thing to do. So there are lots of opportunities for wisecracks about Rick's beard from the rest of the Nelson family, and also a couple of great slapstick scenes with Wally and Ginger.
Anybody else like this episode?
OH Nuts! 08-21-2009, 03:45 PM I know I've seen this once or twice but it's been a while & what a wonderful excuse to go back and re-view it. Just my opinion of course but I think its perfectly fine to discuss the ep...so if you want to...go for it!

Just re-saw it this morning. I liked it a lot. Boy everyone wanted that beard. And poor Ozzie trying to claim theat $50 at the Emporium. It's a fun ep & interested to see what all the guys would look like in a beard.

I liked the newspaper photo of Ozzie -- he looked kind of "spacey" in the picture.
It was pretty hilarious when the store clerk pushed the security alarm. At first I thought he pushed the button because he thought Ozzie was falsely trying the claim the prize, but then I realized that he thought Ozzie was crazy!
I'm glad you enjoyed this episode! :)
biffbronson 08-22-2009, 10:00 PM My favorite scene was the young woman's reaction to Ozzie's beard, when she was borrowing the Nelsons' typewriter IIRC... A funny scene!

Oh yes I remember that. I just love that scream she made!
MickeyMac 08-24-2009, 02:54 PM Beards are good. I have been known to grow one from time to time.

Yeah, me too. I've had one since the early 1980s, but I've always kept it trimmed pretty short. I wouldn't want to have a beard like the guys in ZZ Top.

what set is this episode on?
I own this episode on a one-disc, four-episode DVD collection that I bought at one of the local dollar stores. I don't know if it's on any of the larger DVD compilations that are out there.

I have it on a 5 DVD set from Passport & I believe it's on one of the Alphas (but don't know which Vol #)
Jude The Obscure 09-05-2009, 11:01 PM got an e-mail from Amazon about Vol 14 now available? But once again--no episode descriptions.
Dan Tullis 09-09-2009, 09:05 PM Rick was a very handsome guy, no need to hide his face in a beard - and I don't say that about many guys! Most of the time I look at these teen idols and wonder "why do girls go for him?" but in Rick's case, I can see why.

Also besides the fact that he was very handsome he was a gentleman and a nice guy. Add that to the equation and you get......WOW!!
