I thought this was an odd moment for the wholesome Donna Reed Show. After all, it is a sitcom. I wonder why they chose a headline like that, instead of something lighter, like "Garbage Strike Over." The headline they used did not fit the style of the Donna Reed Show.
Maybe they were trying to contrast Donna's mid-western innocence with life in the "big city."

They probably didnt even notice the headline when Donna picked up that newspaper. I think they probably would have used a different paper with a happier headline.

I noticed that, too. I wonder how it got by the censors of the day!!

I watched this episode last night. Maybe they used that headline because Donna and Alex were in New York.

That's what I was thinking: small-town gal in the big city. Even having her "hide" behind the paper is kind of symbolic!
