The reviewer seems to think the media makes a difference to quality with statements like "There are a few episodes that look a little bright and grainy, but this is DVD-R".

The media has nothing to do with the quality. How the video has been encoded, which may be partially influenced by the decision on media, may have an impact on quality. Given the size of encodings for past seasons however, there is sufficient space on a single layer DVD-R to accomodate five episodes per disk at the same quality as season 2-3 releases.

I bought both sets and I must say that I love them both. I'm glad that they released the whole series. I don't care that it was on dvd-rs. The quality is impeccable to me. I used to watch this after school on an old tv. So these look fantastic to me. I wish more studios would release shows this way if it means actually completing more series and getting other shows out that would otherwise be unavailable. I encourage studios to do this. :)
