Then: Michael Gross
Michael Gross starred as father Steven Keaton, manager at a local public television station and former hippie. Peace Corps veteran in Africa, Steven married like-minded Elyse, and both participated in anti-Vietnam rallies and Woodstock in their youth. On the show, he juggles fatherhood and work while clashing with his more traditionally-minded children.

Now: Michael Gross
Now 62, Michael Gross achieved more success as Burt Gummer in the early 90s "Tremors" movies. Since then, he has guest-starred on other sitcoms, with a small nod to "Family Ties" as therapist to former co-star Michael J. Fox's character on "Spin City." He's also a huge railroad antique fan, and will be spokesman for B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore this year. But he hasn't lost his liberal Steven Keaton ways either: Gross campaigned with TV wife Meredith Baxter for Senator John Kerry in the 2004 election.
