It's been awhile since I was up here. As most people know, there are many videos on YouTube implying that Jo and Blair were in a lesbian relationship. This was not what was really happening. That sort of thing was nearly hush hush on TV in those days (although ironically it was addressed in an extremely awkward manner in the first episode after the pilot way back in season 1). Some of these are pretty good though I must say. Particularly the one titled "Chemicals React" which does not necessarily have to be interpreted as a lesbian relationship, unlike most of these. It's amazing how well crafted some of those videos are. I would provide a link, but I am not sure that is appropriate. Just type in "jo blair chemicals react" and see what you get.
I am fairly certain a large part of these videos is a dig at Lisa Whelchel's personal religious faith, as nothing in her character easily lends itself to lesbianism. This would be yet another example of classic liberal intolerance.
Jo on the other hand was questionable I suppose, but this really was a children's show, wasn't it? Some people's imaginations sure run wild. Well, Nancy McKeon did get fan mail from real lesbians, didn't she? Here I'll start up my own Internet rumor (there are million of these). When the amount of letters got really big, Jo started to date more. Is anybody with me on this theory?
As far as all those rumors go, The Facts of Life was a show that focused on the four girls and their very different personalities. Just because someone is a tomboy does not mean they are a lesbian. I dont think the show was trying to push a relationship with them at all. I have never thought that. The show always did well and since there was no gossip or rumors to throw around, I think people just try to stir up stuff. I don't believe the rumors at all.

I couldn't agree more. I do believe that Jo and Blair actually did love each other deep down, WAY deep down maybe, LOL, as sisters. I believe all four girls loved one another as sisters, and I believe the show is really about four sisters growing up together and a mother (Mrs. Garrett), and of course their very different personalities. And like the person before me stated (sorry, forgot your SO name) just because Jo is a tomboy, that does not automatically have to mean she's a lesbian. Just like because a man has interests in things that are considered more feminine, like cooking or sewing, etc., it does not automatically make him gay. Perhaps people wanted to make Jo out to be a lesbian because she was so sensitive underneath her tough tomboy exterior, but again, that does not automatically make her a lesbian. If there's any one thing Jo was famous for on the show, it was her sense of integrity, and if she were a lesbian, why in the world did she date GUYS??? I think it's a classic case of d'uh, if you ask me. I think it's rather sad, but in our cynical society today, two people of the same sex simply cannot love one another as brothers or sisters or friends without it meaning homosexuality or lesbianism. Heck, I've even seen it suggested in comments on YouTube that all FOUR of the girls were lesbians! I guess that's why I love Facts, because people could just love each other purely back then without anybody jumping to any conclusions about it. Girls could love each other back in those days as best friends and sisters without it meaning anything else.
I could not agree more. I do think that they ended up being as close as sisters and they still have such a great friendship to this day which I love because they are the two people I look up to the most in this world. I hate it when people make that lesbian reference to this show because that is the farthest thing from it. The Facts of Life was and is a wonderful, funny, and popular sitcom that continues to be one of my favorite shows. The girls make the stories real and have amazing acting abilities and if people can't see the show in that way then it is sad because that is all it is. Like I said before, it is a shame that people have to make references like that and make up rumors about the show.

I don't care if Jo was gay or not but she certainly can do a lot better than Snotty Blair Warner. I don't think Jo would go for Blair even if she was gay.
