Hugh Jackman has confirmed that a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine will be filmed in Japan.

In May, the actor’s Seed Productions company announced that the next Wolverine instalment would be based on a samurai storyline from Marvel Comics.

The 40-year-old revealed that the upcoming follow-up would be inspired by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont’s story arc of the mutant superhero training in the ways of Eastern philosophy and fighting skills.

He told MTV: "Japan is where we're heading, [and] we're starting to work on it now. We're in the ... first steps of developing that story."

Jackman said that he has "made no real secret" of the fact that the story arc is one of his favourites, adding: "I think the fans love that saga. It's my favorite saga of the Wolverine stories. That's a movie I've longed to make from the beginning, so that's where we're heading."

The X-Men star recently admitted that he had received an X-rated gift when filming completed on the most recent film in the franchise.

me too. the latest wolverine movie did really well in the box office recently and so a follow-up was going to eventually happen. not sure if you are familiar with the comics, but one of wolverine's arch enemies is a villain going by the name of 'lady deathstrike', who is japanese. plus, she was a former ex-lover of logan's as well. logan- being the superhero's real name- and so, it kind of makes sense to base the sequel in japan.

i actually think she might appear in this movie.
