Not sure if Night Court aired that night on Sept. 20, 1984. I heard back-to-back Cheers repeats aired, but not 100% sure. WGN won't air 2 Cheers that night, though.

According to my TV Guide, Christopher Loyd guest starred as an artist who wanted Diane to pose for him and Sam was against it.

The title is I'll Be Seeing You and was the second season finale.

Thanks for posting this. WGN America's fall line-up is one of the line-ups I'm looking forward to, so I can't wait to see it. When you get it Pavan, don't hold off on releasing it too long!!

As with "Cheers", I hope they air it earlier in the fall. Maybe it would do better earlier than late night. Hallmark does that and they wonder why it doesn't do well.

WGN is so creative with their programming specials. I can see Family Ties fitting in well for this channel should it be acquired. Maybe Hill Street Blues could go on in the mornings with shows like Nash Bridges, Matlock, etc.

Online Contest and Online Game

NEW YORK, August 19, 2009 -- Twenty-five years ago, America welcomed comedian Bill Cosby and his television family into their homes. On September 20, 1984 The Cosby Show debuted and families across the country were introduced to the Huxtables, an upper-middle class African-American household with patriarch Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable played by Bill Cosby.

Sunday, September 20, 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of The Cosby Show and to celebrate the milestone (to the day) WGN America will be airing a series of tributes to The Cosby Show including the replication of the original NBC Thursday night lineup as it aired on Thursday, September 20, 1984 (the day The Cosby Show premiered) with interviews by Lilly Tartikoff, a Cosby Show Viewer's Choice Marathon, an online contest and an online game.

The Cosby Show detailed the lives of Cliff, his wife Clair (Phylicia Rashasd) and their five children: Sondra (Sabrina LeBeauf) Denise (Lisa Bonet) Theo (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) Vanessa (Tempestt Beldsoe) and Rudy (Keshia Knight-Pulliam) as they grew up in Brooklyn, NY. The series, which ran for eight seasons from 1984-1992, garnered numerous awards including: two Emmy Awards (Outstanding Comedy Series, 1985 and Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series, 1984), three Golden Globe Awards, and multiple NAACP awards. Rated #1 for five consecutive seasons (1985-1990) Time Magazine and TV Guide ranked The Cosby Show in their lists of "Greatest Shows of All-Time" and Entertainment Weekly and USA Today selected the show for their "Top TV Moments in History" lists.

WGN America will honor Cliff, Clair and the kids with a replication of the original lineup as it aired in 1984, a Cosby Show Viewer's Choice Marathon with an online contest, and an online trivia game.

"As we have seen with the success of WGN America's current Sunday lineup "Outta Site Retro Night," our viewers love nostalgia and to recreate the programming of 1984 allows us to offer viewers a chance to re-live a history-making lineup," said Sean Compton, SVP of Programming and Entertainment, Tribune Broadcasting. "The strength of this 1984 night brought comedy back to primetime and forever changed the way families watched television."

Following the WGN America broadcast of the Chicago Cubs baseball game at 5:30pm ET, WGN America will be committing the prime and overnight schedule to The Cosby Show and the NBC Thursday night line-up that dominated the 80's. At 5:30pm and 6:00pm ET will see two best-of episodes and at 6:30pm ET WGN America will air a 25th Anniversary Special. Then from 7-10pm ET WGN America will re-air the original Brandon Tartikoff NBC Thursday night line-up EXACTLY AS IT AIRED IN 1984: The Cosby Show: "Pilot Presentation," Family Ties: "The Gambler," Cheers: I'll Be Seeing You, Parts 1 and 2" and Hill Street Blues: "Eva's Braun."

Additionally, WGN America has interviewed philanthropist Lilly Tartikoff who shares her thoughts on the iconic programs of 1984 and memories of her husband, programming visionary Brandon Tartikoff. Lilly's interviews will air as interstitials in primetime from 7-10pm ET during the WGN America recreation of the 1984 lineup.
From 7-10pm ET WGN America will adopt the NBC theme "Let's All Be There" (circa 1984) using original promotional elements (A special thank you to NBC for sharing their archive materials).

"Brandon Tartikoff was a visionary without professional peer, and his greatest achievements occurred during his fight with a disease which ultimately defeated him. This event is as much a tribute to the Cosby Show as it is to the man behind it," said Compton.

In the overnight (11pm-4am ET), WGN America will air a viewer's choice marathon of the top ten Cosby episodes voted by our viewers at WGNAmerica.com. Voting for The Cosby Show Viewer's Choice Marathon http://www.wgnamerica.com/pages/cosby/ <http://www.wgnamerica.com/pages/cosby/> begins today and runs through Monday, September 14th.

The Cosby Show Viewer's Choice Marathon will also have a contest component, all viewers who submit their favorite episode to WGNAmerica.com will be entered to win a complete DVD set of all eight seasons of The Cosby Show autographed by Bill Cosby plus a Cosby Show Prize Pack. Four runners up will receive a complete DVD set.

I love what WGN America is doing but don't you think the news could air at 11PM (or 10 central) for one night? Cosby Show didn't premiere at 7pm right? I mean once they're trying to duplicate the night at least do it starting from 8 until 11.

I was thinking that too DSFan. JT, Tv land did that once with The Bob Newhart show and some other shows from CBS a few years ago. Anyway, it'll be cool to see all that Cosby Show stuff as well as seeing Family Ties on another channel, Cheers at an earlier time, and Hill Street Blues. If only they'd add Family Ties and Hill Street Blues as regular series. I also wanna know WGN America's fall line-up

Dang...no more Coach. Wow, the schedule certainly is classic-based during the day. Only thing I would change is yank Becker from 6-7pm and put Cosby Show there.

Pavan, what about NewsRadio? I guess it will still just be a filler after movies sometimes?
Still, the only weak spot on the schedule is like 3-5am. Doesn't really matter though. Don't they HAVE to air Reno 911? I remember something was strange about it.
Odd to just air L&O:CI at 4am on Sunday though.

L&O: CI is only 4am the first week because of baseball. It will move to 2pm and 3pm on Saturdays the following week, as I posted.

Coach and NewsRadio are in limbo. They are trying to renew them, especially Coach. NewsRadio was filler anyway. Punk'd will be used as the filler after movies now. They have to air 5 episodes of Reno 911! during the week.Oh, sorry. I see it now.

Coach and NewsRadio are Program Exchange, so they should be cheap I would think. Both shows deserve more exposure, hopefully they can renew them. Poor NewsRadio....Nick@Nite treated it badly, then TBS, now it barely got to air on WGN. I guess it just doesn't re-run well.

not happy that WKRP and Coach are leaving. If a retro night show got cut I would rather it be The Cosby Show or ALF. Was hoping for Coach to get a weekday slot. When does Coach leave Wednesdays? I like Cheers airing weekdays now, that's a really good block from 3-6PM.

Coach/Becker leave Wednesday primetime after their Sept. 2 airings. '80s night will take over after that from 8-10pm ET:

Sept. 9 - POLICE ACADEMY (1984)
Sept. 16 - COSBY SHOW REUNION, THE
Sept. 23 - PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE (1985)
Sept. 30 - OCTOPUSSY

Coach, NewsRadio, Bullwinkle, and Munsters are all from Program Exchange and they are working on new deals for most of those. So "for now" they are not on the schedule.

I like that their weekday schedule is more classic oriented. But why is WKRP gone from Sunday nights, and for Cosby? I mean, it's enough of Cosby. It's on all the time on so many channels. If they air it isn't my problem, it's that they take away a show that doesn't currently air on any other network.

I think the changes I would make would be Coach at 12:00PM, NewsRadio at 12:30PM, and then The Cosby Show from 6pm-7pm, if they can hopefully get NR and Coach.

Seems to me they want to be classic/mostly classic during the day, a mixture during prime time, and new comedies/programs/misc. 11pm-late night or later.

NewsRadio could be heading elsewhere (more soon when it is actually scheduled), but it won't be exclusive, so WGN can renew it. I don't think they will, though. Coach will probably get a new deal since it did well on Wednesdays. I can see them airing it on Sundays. Becker does well for them 6-7pm, don't think they will remove that. They had a Ted Danson block now from 5-7pm.

Sorry if this sounds stupid or whatever, but did the contract expire?
If not, could you please explain in more detail what the issues were that has caused them to remove the program from their lineup.

I am glad that Cheers is coming to the weekday schedule. I had a feeling it would and I thought that it should. It's a good thing that Cheers is on WGN America as Hallmark airs it in the wee-hours of the morning. Also, I wish WGN America would acquire more episodes of ALF because I am kinda tired of seeing the same old episodes of ALF. I wish WKRP did not have to leave. But they are the new episodes with generic music replacing the original music. Let me tell you that I am excited about The Cosby Show celebrating their 25th anniversary and the classic NBC Thursday Night Lineup of the night Cosby premiered. But Cosby is played alot on every other channel and it does kinda get old if you think about it. No offense to you Cosby fans. I also like Cosby myself don't get me wrong. But well you know....

“WAY BACK WEDNESDAY WITH WINSLOW”

Weekly 80’s Movie Night to Be Hosted by Police Academy ’s Michael Winslow

NEW YORK, September 8, 2009 -- On September 9th WGN America will debut Way Back Wednesday with Winslow, a totally tubular 80’s movie night. Each Wednesday, from 8-10pm ET, WGN America will air a 1980’s themed movie and will kick off Way Back Wednesday with Winslow with Police Academy at 8pm ET.

Way Back Wednesday with Winslow will be hosted each week by Michael Winslow who appeared in Police Academy 1-7(as Sgt. Larvell "Motor Mouth" Jones) Gremlins and Spaceballs, and is known as the “Man of 10,000 sound effects. Winslow and his sound effects will be featured each week in the movie night’s open, close, bumps and bridges.

Way Back Wednesday with Winslow will feature rad 80’s classics including: Caddyshack, National Lampoon’s Vacation, National Lampoon’s European Vacation, Risky Business, Sixteen Candles, PeeWee’s Big Adventure, Poltergeist, Lethal Weapon, Uncle Buck, Mr. Mom, Arthur, the Great Outdoors and Spies Like Us.

I thought the 80s Night was going to be part TV shows-part movies. Did WGN America change the plans or will there still be TV shows involved?

Interesting how they are airing more premiere episodes of the Addams Family than Munsters.

Also, I find it hard to see where WGN is going direction wise after today's blog. Next season, they will have many newer sitcoms, dramas, classic sitcoms, wwe stuff, etc. It just seems like there is no real theme, not that that is a problem per say, but how could they make a proper schedule out of that- keep it the same until let's say 6pm then go into the new shows maybe?

It seems a little bit busy, in my opinion.

Well, their primetime line-up is still pretty limited and weak. They mainly air America's Funniest Home Videos for several hours in the evenings. They could do away from that, since AFV has showed up everywhere this fall, and insert the newer shows in primetime and still focus on classics in the daytime and weekends. I hope they will continue adding classic shows.

That's always possible but I think, at the least, Outta Sights Retro night will stick around for a while longer. After seeing the interview with the guy in charge of WGN on here sometime last year, it just seems like he would really want to at least have some classic sitcom aspect to the network.

I'm glad that Newhart is getting another Thanksgiving marathon, but it's a lot shorter this year. They couldn't preempt their wrestling crap for one night? And Becker does NOT belong on Retro Night, it finished its run in the 21st century! wish it was switched with the 2nd Barney Miller hour at 1AM.

Pav, please clear up if Becker is taking an Outta Sight Retro Night spot or if it is simply at 6 before the retro night begins. There is a big difference and really there would be no problem unless it is considered retro, which it is not.

Looking at my listings Hollywood and Dine and Cultivating Life have been moved to the Sunday 11AM hour. Now there will be a weekly marathon of Law & Order: Criminal Intent Saturdays from 12-4PM. And good news for Retro Night Fans, tomorrow (Sunday November 22) the 10PM news is preempted for additional episodes of Barney Miller and Cheers! Also don't forget the Newhart series finale is tomorrow at 8:30. :D

Coach had a special airing on WGN today. It did well before on Wednesday nights, I had thought it wasn't airing because they were trying to get a new contract? They obviously have one now with the Christmas night airings and today, why isn't it airing regularly? It should replace Becker on Retro Night at 6PM, better yet bring it to weekdays.

Tomorrow night WGN is airing the 3 part series finale of Barney Miller. Parts 1 and 2 will air from 9-10PM but part 3 won't air until 1AM. I would think they could have aired all 3 parts together from 9-10:30PM and pushed the 10PM-1AM lineup a half hour later for one week.
