Palm Springs — On August 8, 2009 legendary Hollywood director, producer and writer William Asher, or Bill as he prefers to be called will turn 88 years old. He´ll celebrate this momentous occasion with a quiet dinner at home with his lovely wife Meredith, family and a few close friends.
Asher will forever be known as the mastermind behind the still-popular series Bewitched (1963-1972) starring Elizabeth Montgomery, to whom Asher was also married at the time. The series was awarded nearly two-dozen Emmy nominations. Others may recall seeing Asher´s name proudly displayed as the credits rolled episode after episode of the classic comedy, I Love Lucy. No other director in Lucille Ball´s television career would direct her in so many episodes.
In the late ´50s, Asher moved from Desilu to direct other TV projects, including the Jane Wyman Show (Fireside Theater), The Paul Lynde Show, Alice, Dukes of Hazzard, and Dinah Shore and her Dinah Shore Chevy Show, which won two Emmys under his leadership. Asher also directed nearly all of the classic beach party films, starring Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon, as well as the TV version of Gidget, starring a young Sally Field.
Asher wrapped up his stellar career with a couple of reunion TV movies, I still Dream of Jeannie and Return to Green Acres.
Cards and well-wishes can be sent to Mr. Asher through his publicist Gary Jordan Pr www.garyjordanpr.net
