Ilmago? he/she has sent me two message over the past couple month saying the exact same thing (the message they sent me is posted below). Right off the bat I could tell it was either spam or a virus by how impersonal this member/computer sounded- not to mention they have zero posts. Do you think this persons being for real?




The message sent to me today-
I've been browsing these forums for close to two months now. I've noticed that you know a lot about television shows and such. Im very impress with your knowledge.

The reason why I am sending you this is because I need a bit of your help. I have forums myself, and I am trying to improve my television section. I would love if someone like yourself would join the forums and post new topics and replies when you have time. I am sure if you gave them a chance you'd actually enjoy yourself. Now were definitely not as big as these forums, but we do have over 600k messages spread around the forums.

Now I am not going to send you the link right away, in case your not interested. But if you are(wish I really hope you are) then let me know and I'll send the link your war.

I got a pm exactly like that. I told him I'd told him I'd check it out. He wrote me back literally begging me to be a member or something but I never wrote back and he hasn't talked to me since.

Yes, I've gotten that PM. He is actually a moderator at another message board. I've checked it out and I don't like it nearly as much as S.O. One of the things I don't like is that they have a points system. One of the things you can get points for is recruiting new members which is why this person is lurking at S.O. and PMing some of us. He is trying to earn points by recruiting us to join his message board. You may notice that he has been a member for several months at S. O. but his post count is zero. I would suggest ignoring him.

Thanks for the heads up guys- maybe I'll just check the site out to see what it's like. Glad to see I'm the only one he's been stalking! hehe.

Sounds familiar... I might have got something like that. I think there was something related to music a while ago from a spamming pseudo-member.

Sent me pretty much that same note a few months ago. I wrote back and he sent me his site. It was some general forum and I didn't dig the place. That was it.

I can see how it would be annoying, for promoting another site. But it's not like he/she is promoting a site with pornographic material, violence depicted or drugs/alcohol related subjects talked about on the respective forum.

I'll send it to you. I was afraid to respond to his note because you never know... he might have sent a link that was attached to a virus or something. Plus, I find it VERY odd that under his screen name, it says banned (in red). Hmmm...
