Jordan Zweigoron had envisioned an "edgy" doughnut shop. But he had no idea his themed store in a strip mall in Campbell, Calif., would incite protests and TV broadcast debates about the mentally ill in America.

"The trouble started about two weeks in after opening," Zweigoron said. "A small handful of people took what we were doing very literally."

pretty tasteless for a doughnut shop. it's just about the last thing we need in the hurricane of myths and misunderstandings about mental health in mainstream society anyway.

What kind of a jerk comes up with an idea like that?

I would think they could come up with a better (and less tasteless) way to sell donuts.

That is disgusting. If I were to walk into a shop like that I would automatically lose my appetite, just reading that I did....and that is IMPOSSIBLE for me. :lol:

I find this idea tacky and tasteless. They'd never get away with mocking physical disabilities and disorders. Why is it acceptable to make fun of mental illness?

Okay, speaking as someone who has personally dealt with mental illness for several years now, I SERIOUSLY take offense to this. I have bipolar and I certainly take offense to the bipolar donut, not to mention everything else that this article mentioned...the straitjackets, the grouptherapy room, the massive head trauma donut, etc. I'm so glad they're receiving this criticism...they've earned it! :mad: :rolleyes: As for me though, I take this like the Willises in The Jeffersons took some people's ignorant attitudes about their interracial marriage...of course I'm offended but I'm not letting these idiots ruin my day. I'm letting this roll off my back because like I just said, they are indeed IDIOTS. :rolleyes:
