Michael Moore is leaving the documentary world behind! Okay, most people would say that he already has, because his form of "documentary" takes so very many narrative leaps, but he's honest-to-goodness looking for new pastures. Just over a month after Erik typed that Moore "isn't exactly moving on to the world of fiction," the director has told the Detroit News that his latest, Capitalism: A Love Story, might be his last documentary.

"While I've been making this film I've been thinking that maybe this will be my last documentary. ... I have been working on two screenplays over the last couple of years. One's a comedy, one's a mystery, and I really want to do this."

It's strange to think of Moore not being a documentarian, even if his films stretch the barrier between truth and fiction. Like, love, or loathe him, the man has made a ridiculously successful career uncovering stories and beating down the powers that be. But perhaps this was the path he's been on for a while. As Erik posted, Moore was comparing Capitalism to a vampire movie, so he's definitely got fiction on the brain.

Is Moore making the right move, and how do you think he'll fare when facing fiction? This isn't his first stab at it. Remember Canadian Bacon?

First off Michael Moore has to make a documentary to say he can no longer make a documentary. Now if only he would take a permanant vow of silence.
