View Full Version : Do you know of Any Self Centered or Sympathy Crazed People?
Brian Damage 08-01-2009, 04:08 PM I used to work with a guy who was always looking for sympathy if he had a death in the family. We all have losses, and it's always sad, but this guy acted like he had a monopoly on grief. We had to constantly hear that it was two years since so and so died. It's his deceased aunt's birthday, his deceased cousin died six years ago today. His parrot was dying. On and on. The guy was like the freakin' Grim Reaper, lol. After a while, it was overkill, no pun. Just a big time sympathy monger. Everyone joked about it behind his back. He was a walking skit.

Chocoholic 08-01-2009, 04:50 PM YES!!! One of the special-area teachers at my school is best friends with the teacher I work with. She would come in to our room daily to chat with her, usually whining about something, totally ignoring the fact that this was a classroom during the school day and we had children we were trying to teach. She'd get really offended if you didn't stop what you're doing to pay attention to her. Thank goodness she retired this year. I don't know how she got away with her behavior for so long.
Waterston_Fan 08-01-2009, 04:57 PM Do self-centered people talk too much and get upset when they are interrupted and stuff?
sunshinefizzy 08-01-2009, 05:10 PM The whole left side of my family tree is like that. They want a medal for getting out of bed in the morning.
browneyes106 08-01-2009, 05:45 PM I know a few people that are like that. My cousin who is already 50 always wants to sympathy for different things in her life. First off her and her brother were raised by a single mom my aunt. My cousins were grew up with her said that she would always try and get everyone to feel sorry for her. They said they did feel sorry for her but it bugged them that she was always looking for sympathy and she once told two of my cousins that her mom deserved more respect than their mom because her mom was a single mom. A few years back she got mad at my mom and a few relatives because they didn't notice her glasses and she whined about how she couldn't afford a new pair of glasses. My cousin is one of those people that doesn't manage money wisely. She'll spend money on material stuff like cameras, computers and other stuff but she never has money for things she really needs and she always whines about how she can't afford certain things for her kids and how she has to cut their hair because she can't afford hair cuts. She also self centered and a compulsive liar.
Brian Damage 08-01-2009, 06:05 PM Someone I know pretty well always looks for sympathy and or attention. For example, if they go on vacation and when they come back, if you are not throwing them a party with dang balloons and a marching band they get all upset. :rollyes:

Doodyville10019 08-01-2009, 08:14 PM People who are so-called "sympathy-crazed" or seeking attention really don't bother me. If they want sympathy and/or attention, I'll usually give it, even if it's a total stranger. People are people - everyone is an individual.

I had a boss like that a few years ago.
Family Ties Forever! 08-01-2009, 09:41 PM When I was in college there was this one girl who constantly went on and on about her health condition and how difficult it was for her to get to classes. She missed a lot of classes because she would either be in the health center seeing a doctor or she would be at her parent's house sleeping. Sometimes I wondered if some of the professors passed her because they felt sorry for her. The more attention she seemed to get the more she would talk about her condition. It's like she couldn't seem to have a conversation, or chose not to, that didn't revolve around her condition. Who wants to be around someone who only wants attention and pity? It's one thing to mention something from time to time, it's another thing to beg for sympathy. In general, people grow tired of pity parties.
Janice 08-01-2009, 11:06 PM I've known several people like this throughout my life. One person I knew, sympathy and attention fed her soul. She went from one manufactured crisis to another. It defined who she was as a person. What a way to go through life. I think she had that disorder, Munchausen Syndrome, where a person lies to garner sympathy and attention.
dakert 08-01-2009, 11:50 PM Its really funny to listen to 2 self centered people talking to each other. They both are talking about something different and no one is listening . hahaha in a crazy mixed up way
dawsongirl 08-02-2009, 01:33 AM Myself. Online anyway. I couldn't get attention or sympathy if I tried with my family because on both sides, there's someone "above" me in importance.
