I wish there would have been a 2nd season! All the stuff I've read about a 2nd season would really have made things a little better, and maybe get a larger audience....but it wasn't meant to be.....

Well, I was tired of it after the first season, but I agree that it would have done better for a 2nd season. The prime-time reruns of TAC in 1985-1986, were #10 for that season, so if that were another season, it woulf have been. On USA, the cable rating was around the top 20 somewhere I guess. In syndication though, it didn't do very well at all, in fact the syndicated networks would lose the show because of a shortage in episodes and bad synndication ratings. All that the syndicated networks wanted to do was fill their late, lousy timeslots with these spin-off flops, because if the ratings are bad, then you can do the same season over again without anybody knowing it. I know that TAC is much more wanted then The Ropers, mianly because it had bad luck getting to any cable entworks, which it didn't, as TAC went onto USA in 1986, where it was just flop, so other cable networks thought that it would be worse with the Ropers, as the first season was so short, and syndicated networks had trouble with the second season, because new shows could ill that time-slot, and here we have a short season and a jumbo one. TAC did do better in syndication then the Ropers anyway, so nobody wanted it, except for a few syndicated networks that try getting it today, with no luck, although Hawaii got The Ropers in 2000, but failed because of the strange season lengths, although Three's Company had a small first season run. I just wanted to give you the history of the show.

a bad spinoff , unlike all in the family which had a good spinoff like the jeffersons as the characters were more developed and likeable ,, jack ritter moving in with a girl spoiled the jack tripper image as a single playboy and also introducing his supporting cast in the last 3 episodes of 3's company wasnt a good idea. for one thing , mary cadorette was a poor choice instead of say joyce dewitt, not funny and no comic timing with ritter .. threes company was good due to comic timing of the leads .. would have been better with joyce dewitt , and also jack tripper's character became a bore and not the usually funny guy . all in all a disappointing spinoff that should never have been. too bad joyce dewitt never tried a series of her own

Well did you like the episode with Larry Dallas? I think that one was pretty good but since the show was so short-lived-i only wanted the episode with the guest appearance of Richard Kline.

Joyce DeWitt woodve made the show last longer...

And heres an interesting point:
On the Threes Company E! True Hollywood Story, they considered Joyce DeWitt to be Jack's wife, but John Ritter didnt want the Janet character to be spinned off as his wife because according to Ritter "In order for the show to work, there had to be a father that despised Jack, and we already met Janet's parents". That was totally wrong because, first off, the father made the show IRRITATING. Plus, why couldnt they just think of another idea other than a mean father. I mean, it cant revolve around that one topic, that's why the Ropers failed.

You fail to realize that the Jack Tripper character was matured by time TAC started. The character had to change eventually, he couldn't be goofy forever. On TAC, He was a married man with his own restarunt, on TC in the first three seasons he was a single unemployed goofball who wasn't mature. So i personally feel TAC was not a bad show. It was 187% better than the Ropers.

was it really john who didnt want her or the producers? cuz from what i've heard it seemed like he and joyce had a good relationship and you'd think he would rather do the show with her? :confused:

Why would Joyce be chosen to do THree's A Crowd when the storyline dealt with Jack living with a GIRL? He wasn;t going to live with Janet. So her character wasn't needed

Janet was his platonic friend, not someone to share a one bedroom apartment with which is why she wasn't NEEDED for the show.

The idea of the show came from 'Robin's Nest' on the BBC. They tried to make it as close to the original as possible.

I think that the reason this show tanked is because nobody wanted Jack to mature. The writers gave him a more promising future (his own restaurant) and a steady girlfriend. All anybody wanted was the past. If Jack stayed an unemployed goofball, the show would eventually be centered around him living on the street, playing a guitar and having people throw money in his guitar case. What kind of show would that be?

I wouldn;t say that because he was still silly and clusmy. Vicky's DULL PERSONALITY just made the show not as interesting as three's company
