"[T]V can grow in the mid-single digits when you take affiliate revenue and ad revenue together..." was the pronouncement this week of Ben Swinburne, media analyst at Morgan Stanley, B&C reports.

Next year should see an increase in ad spending by 2%, Swinburne said.

He expects broadcast networks to underperform compared to cable.

"Swinburne sees a future where broadcast networks will no longer be able to invest in programming without some major improvement in retransmission fees or converting themselves into pay-TV networks," B&C wrote.

Another thing is i heard that broadcast networks have had talks to become part of the cable outlets. So one day all networks will probably be cable.

the last time our local NBC/CW affiliate and ABC/FOX affiliate threatened to black out on Time Warner cable, it translated into a $20 increase in our cable bill the next month after they settled on an agreement to carry their channels on basic cable.

No. If I had to pay to watch what CBS, ABC, and NBC are airing today, it would not be worth it. I think it would be an improvement because I wouldn't be funding the likes of Two and a Half Men and CSI with my taxpayer dollars!

if i lived in america, then i wouldn't, as 99% of the shows currently on those networks on TV don't appeal to me one bit.

Most TV Stations have a broadcast radius of at least 50 miles.

Cable TV was invented in 1946 by a fellow who couldn't get TV because he was living in an area where TV Signals were blocked by mountains. For the next 30 years Cable TV was used primarily in areas that had little or no TV Reception, either because they were rural areas or as I mentioned before, mountainous areas. (When I was a child my Grandparents lived near Oscoda, Michigan, they had a 50 foot tall TV Antenna, from which they could only get two TV Stations, an NBC Station in Bay City and an ABC Station in Alpena). In 1970 they got Cable TV, and they were able to get the same TV Stations that us "City Slickers" in Detroit got. They only had one "Specialty" Channel, which was called "The Weather Channel" (Not the one that exists now). This was simply a Panel that had a Clock, Thermometer, Barometer and a wind gage on it which was panned by a camera and accompanied by Muzak. (In 1974 High School Students broke into the Cable TV Station and covered the Gages with Centerfolds.) :lol: "Modern" Specialty Channels were not introduced until the mid 1970s, and soon after Cable TV made it into the cities. When my city got hooked up in 1980 I was like a Child on Christmas Morning. Five years ago I got rid of Cable, considering what's being shown these days, and how much it costs to subscribe, I do not miss it at all! :p

I don't have showtime I don't watch it. We do have HBO but I don't watch it I'd cancel HBO but my mom loves Boardwalk empire.......As far as paying for ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, and CW yes I would pay for them all except fox and Upn 9 I don't watch those channels......

Both CBS and NBC I have one show on each network I like. ABC and CW I watch mostly because they have more shows I like to watch airing.:)

i heard long time ago they were going to let people pick their own channel this is what they should do. their like five or ten channel i don't watch. i would love to get ride of them maybe replace them with channel you wont might be expensivsen i would pay for that
