Musical legend CAROL CHANNING has given her blessing to JOHNNY DEPP's gender-bending plans to portray her in a film.
The Pirates Of The Caribbean star regularly changes his appearance for films, and even dressed as a woman in 1994's comedy Ed Wood.
Earlier this month (Jul09) he revealed his "dream role" would be to play 88-year-old Channing because "she's amazing".
And the legendary singer/actress has given her approval - because she'd love to see how he would interpret her on the big screen.
She says, "It is not a new concept to me. Not at all. Men have been imitating me for as long as I can remember. In fact, most of the impersonations I have seen have had a five o'clock shadow.
"I imagine, when or if Johnny should portray me, he will succeed. Because a true artist, such as himself, is one who loves his or her creation and therefore represents their honest view of that which they are creating. I think he is a gifted performer and I would be very proud, as well as interested in seeing what his vision of me would be."

I saw this on a newsboard at one of the local coffee shops, and I thought I was reading it wrong. That is just WAY too weird....

I agree!! Has he ever done a movie were he's been in drag or played a woman? I can't think of one.

Carol in person is so tiny...... I saw on her on 34th street in front of Macy's in NYC. She had a red, white and blue outfit on. Navy Jacket with red trimming and white slacks. She seemed so sweet.

Plus she once had a hilarious cameo as herself on The Drew Carey Show. "MOVE YOUR TRUCK!!"

I think Johnny could pull it off but it would be the weirdest biopic ever made.

I don't know of many who have. That's not really one of his popular ones.
