View Full Version : 'Saw VII' is Coming Whether You Like it or Not
Brian Damage 07-23-2009, 11:29 PM With "Saw VI" due to open in the usual October slot, Lionsgate has greenlit "Saw VII" with a January start of production. David Hackl -- production designer of the second, third and fourth films and helmer of "Saw V" -- has been tapped to direct.
Mark Burg and Oren Koules, who have produced all six of the "Saw" pics, are back as producers. And scribes Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who penned the fourth, fifth and sixth films, are writing the seventh.
Lionsgate has worldwide rights in North America and the United Kingdom. The five "Saw" pics to date have grossed more than $700 million worldwide.
Dunstan and Melton, who broke into Hollywood via Project Greenlight, also wrote home-invasion thriller "The Collector," which opens next weekend through Freestyle Releasing. That pic also marks Dunstan's helming debut.

JamesG 07-24-2009, 02:53 AM They're going to keep making them as long as they know the audience is there for them to make $$$. I feel that it has to stop at some point. I love SAW and all but it has to end.
I actually posted about SAW VII a few days ago but at the time the director wasn't announced.
comedyfreak 07-24-2009, 08:43 AM Even if they stop making them they'll be remade eventually. They're milking the cash cow dry already.

Are they going to go with the Alan Smithee alias again?

Probably not. With this franchise people seem to want their name on it.
browneyes106 07-24-2009, 02:47 PM I think maybe the future movies will focus on new apprentices.

They're already doing that now with this F.B.I. guy. How many more apprentices can this go on for?

I agree there can't be many more apprentices but it seems that they might use that factor to keep making more movies.
HuntingtonM15 07-24-2009, 11:36 PM Jeez, when will they put this franchise out of its misery.
JamesG 07-25-2009, 03:01 AM I agree there can't be many more apprentices but it seems that they might use that factor to keep making more movies.
It's redundant and unnecessary.

If they milk it anymore the cow will get dehydrated.

I think that ship has sailed.

Seriously!!

Why??
JamesG 07-25-2009, 02:11 PM Why??
It's a huge money-making franchise.
Also, it's quite impressive the films have all had theatrical releases and haven't gone the direct-to-dvd route like many horror franchises have.
Though I do see it happening at some point where they will make less and less money and eventually go to dvd; that depends on how long it lasts.

waichingliu81 07-26-2009, 08:02 AM i don't know if this is just me, but aren't the films following the same premise? it's always the same no matter what and predictable too i may add. none of the sequels are as different from each other as the last.

TheGreatPretender 07-26-2009, 09:47 AM Is this the one that the winner of "Scream Queens" is in?
JamesG 07-26-2009, 10:21 AM Is this the one that the winner of "Scream Queens" is in?
No, the winner of that show is going to be in SAW VI that comes out this October.
browneyes106 07-26-2009, 09:25 PM I liked Scream Queens the movie scenes they did were funny and stupid sometimes. I hope they reair the episodes before the movie comes out in theaters.

No, it's not just you. SAW is getting pretty repititive and they either have to go in a new direction or come to an end; I prefer the latter.
About part 6, I have been reading various interviews with the creators about what is going on and they said to "expect a resolution" with it. I was thinking how can it be much of a resolution after they just announced another sequel?
There have been rumors going around for a while that Cary Elwes (or his character) is going to come back. According to IMDB he's not listed in the SAW 6 cast so I don't think it's going to happen. (Actually in real life he sued the creators for money he was owed)
So, they could either finally reference his character and let us know what happened or it's going to be a "shocker" that he will come back in the movie.
The Cary Elwes fate has been an ongoing debate for many years and many fans are hoping that they will finally reveal what became of him. Whether he lived or died after sawing his foot off and crawling out of the bathroom.
We'll see what happens soon...
browneyes106 07-26-2009, 11:14 PM I wish they would end the debate over Cary Elwes' character. That is one of the things that bugs about the Saw franchise.

That's one of the major loose ends of the series. This is the thing EVERYONE wants to know.
They have to answer it sooner or later and I'm hoping some sort of answer will be revealed with this one.
Torgo 07-27-2009, 12:55 PM I hope we get a Saw in outer space.
and a Saw that travels back in time to help knights fight an unknown evil.
MrCleveland 07-27-2009, 02:45 PM Saw is like The Simpsons of Horror flicks!
They'll never end!

JamesG 07-31-2009, 05:31 PM EXCL: Saw VII Coming at You in 3-D
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
July 31, 2009
Have you wondered why Saw VII was announced earlier than usual? It's because Twisted Pictures has something special in store for the 2010 entry written, once again, by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton.
Last night, during the Hollywood premiere of Dunstan's The Collector, I reconnected with the Twisted Pictures producing team who were able to confirm what I've been hearing about since January. A 3-D Saw sequel is coming...and it's likely going to be part 7.
They hustled to get Dunstan, Melton and returning director David Hackl aboard in preparation of the technical work that will be involved. Producer Mark Burg informed me they were looking at all of the 3-D options they have.

browneyes106 07-31-2009, 07:22 PM I'm trying to imagine the traps in 3D.
JamesG 07-31-2009, 07:47 PM I'm trying to imagine the traps in 3D.
We'll probably see things like arrows or darts flying, the spring type traps in more detail, and of course blood and guts spraying about.
JamesG 08-01-2009, 01:24 AM I wish they would end the debate over Cary Elwes' character. That is one of the things that bugs about the Saw franchise.
I just realized that this October the video game will be coming out as well.
It's going to officially count as part of the series, taking place between 1 and 2, so there is a chance they might shed light on what happened to him in the game. James and Leigh are involved with the creation of it.
