Hey guys! I'm new here. I'm 19 and I've always loved Happy Days...used to watch reruns of it all the time with my dad when I was a kid.

So here's a rant! I'm just getting impatient with the DVD released.

So come on, Paramount! Happy Days is one of the best shows ever...it's a classic! And a staple in American television history. And it deserves to have it's complete series released to the public. So we have seasons 1-4 on dvd...where are the rest of them?? Why is Paramount lagging so much? It shouldn't be taking this long at all!

Anybody know why? Are the DVD sales for seasons 1-4 low or something?? Anyone know what's up?

My guess on the delays is that Paramount could be working out some music clearance issues. As you may remember, season 2 had a lot of music replaced (it didn't bother me, I was just happy to have that DVD out). Seasons 3 and 4 didn't have a lot of music replaced.

I do want to see the 'Chachi/Lori-Beth' episodes just as much as anyone else. Even the post 'Richie/Ralph' period had a lot of good episodes.

Okay so I emailed Paramount and I said:

"I'm a big "Happy Days" fan and Paramount has so far released the first four seasons of the show on DVD. I was wondering (and hoping) if there are any plans to release the rest of the seasons on DVD as well, and if so, when will season 5 be released? I would definitely buy it. "

They just replied to me and said:

"Thank you for your inquiry. At this time there are no release plans for Happy Days."

Grrr. I'm getting frustrated!!

yeah CBS/Paramount is slow - they say its because of slow sales, and that may be true but all i can say is that be prepared to wait...

I am right there with you, I am 26 and was a baby when the show ended. I became hooked on the show when Nick at Nite added it to the line up and a local tv station as well. I am having to rely on seeing what I can on You tube and going through about 20 tapes that I recorded in high school, however they are not the epidodes I am wanting to see.
It is very frustrating to see dvd's being released 6 weeks after a shows season ends and even more frustrating seeing shows coming out that lasted maybe 2-3 seasons? Obviously there is a fan base for those shows why is paramount saying there is not one for a show that was on 11 years. It makes no sense to me.

Well maybe these sets would have sold better if they had bothered to include extra features and commentaries on these sets.

I am so bummed that there are no release plans for Happy Days. That sucks. Season 5 is a very important season since that was the first season with Scott Baio as Fonzie's cousin Chachi who later dated Joanie, and I was looking forward to it. I know how bad the economy is, but I expect CBS/Paramount to continue releasing the Happy Days series until it's complete, and I'm not giving up on that. Someone ought to write to that DVD studio and tell them that it's not right to leave a good show like this incomplete on DVD.

But let's just hang in there and never give up and lose hope.

Paramount knows that the Seasons 1-4 are the best and they appeal to more people than the later seasons do.

IMO, you'll never see them release anything after Season 4.

TVShowsOnDVD.comwhether the studio sticks with original music or whether they end up having to replace any of it (small or large amounts), it takes a LOOOOOOONG time for them to work it all out due to the massive number of songs in this particular show. So it's a loooong time between releases. There's been no word yet about when (or if) the next release will happen.

my answer from tv shows on dvd about happy days

This is the answer I got:

> John Fara has sent the following email:
> When will Happy Days S5 be released? It's been a year since S4 has been released, and S5 should be announced by now. The fifth season is a very important season since it has new o/c, Leather Tuscadero, the introduction of Mork from Ork (Robin Williams), Lynda Goodfriend as Richie's girlfriend and future wife, Lori Beth, and most of all, Scott Baio joined the cast as Fonzie's cousin, Chachi. And S5 of Laverne and Shirley is the last Milwaukee season before the cast moved to CA in 1980. And S4 of Mork and Mindy is all that needs to be released to wrap up that TV series. Can you possibly contact CBS/Paramount and find out about those releases?

Sorry, no word on season 5 yet.

I too would like to see more seasons of "Happy Days" come to DVD! I would say that I liked the second to last season the best. I especially liked the episode in which the Fonz had an old friend who had become a monk. And, as always, I am very happy to see one of these pages get a post by someone other than me!

I sure would like to see more seasons on tape. there are parts of episodes I have never seen before because the commercials block them out!

Yeah i'm getting worried cause I want them to release the rest of them. I personally like the later ones more. I mean we have a lot of the episodes on tape, so if it takes a while I can always watch them on the tapes. Season 6 is an awesome season so I hope that the rest of them get out soon.

I just bought season 1 today and ordered season 2. I wanted to really wait till they come out with all the seasons and they come out with one of those nice box sets like they did with full house and friends and other shows. but i caved and figured i would be waiting for a long time if i did that. I used to watch reruns when they were on nick at night. I had tapped every episode and had so much stuff. i am only 24 so i had to be 14 when i was in love with the show. still love it though

I'll be happy as long as they release everything through season seven. After that, I don't care.

Anyone else worried that they may not be fast enough to release the rest of the seasons on DVD before Bluray is the standard format and DVD is discontinued?

I would say that that is a very appropriate thing to be concerned about!

You know, if they were going to release the dvd's they should not leave the fans of the show hanging like this. It's ridiculous. If they were going to do this, maybe they should not have released the first four seasons until they could release the rest of them. I hate waiting :( I am so impatient.

Maybe the sales for season four were not what they hoped for and they are unsure about releasing season five.

Well we waited like 2 years for Season 2 to come out so we might have to wait a while longer for Season 5. :(

If Paramount is not planning to release more seasons, I sure hope another company like Shout! Factory buys the rights to release the remaining seasons, and hopefully they may include special features.:)

Me too. Like Shout bought the rights to S1 and S2 of Mr. Ed, S4 of FOL, Complete series of LITB, and the other shows from other studios.

Add me to the list of impatient fans waiting for season 5. I LOVED the shows with Chachi. My daughters already love this show becasue of DVD, and I just dont understand why it's taking SO long.

ANY news from them would be better than just saying....NO PLANS.

UGH.

These two people are selling the complete series that they taped themeselves on dvds:

http://www.ioffer.com/i/Happy-Days-complete-series-120270733
If you already have Seasons 1-4, you could just tell them that you want 5-11 and they will sell them to you. Even though they're not official releases, they are better than having to wait forever to get the official versions.

I have most of the later episodes on tape, but I would still like to have season 5 released on dvd cause there are some in that season that I don't remember.

One season five episode best left forgotten is the all-musical Valentine's Day episode. Yeech!

I was checking out Shout! Factory's website today and they have a message board where people write about which shows they want on DVD. Someone wrote about HD and a producer that works for the company answered. This was his answer:

Paramount's a toughie. They're not keen on licensing out to third parties. We've tried several times. If they truly have no interest in releasing the remainder of the seasons, I don't see this series being completed anytime in the near future, I'm afraid.

Fingers crossed that I'm wrong.

Brian

I don't know if he was referring specifically to HD or to other Paramount shows, but I'm also keeping my fingers crossed hoping he's wrong.
