Interesting to note that Jackie says that this is the first time a Honeymooners episode has been shown in color (apparently he either forgot or didn't want to mention the Color Honeymooers episodes. I am going with the latter.) With the way he talked about it, he was giving the impression that he thought that colorization was great.

The colorized episode is pretty bad in this clip. Due to a tape trade, I can say that the color clip looks better than what you see here and I am also willing to bet that if this episode was colorized today, it would look much better.

Other than that, I am glad I have this special in my collection.

Actually, given the quality of the source material, the coloring is about as good as you can expect. The original kinescope is low resolution compared to film stock or even broadcast television of the day. It has harsh contrast and washed out details.

All in all, it's a bit of a novelty, and an enjoyable one at that.

The irony in all that is that this appears to be one sketch that was not remade in the Color Honeymooners era of the late 1960's. If I'd wanted to see The Honeymooners in color, I'd plop one of MPI's DVD's in my player . . .
