View Full Version : Desi on SNL
dawsongirl 07-17-2009, 01:17 AM Has anyone seen when Desi hosted Saturday Night Live? I was reading some book which quoted Lucie as saying she thought it was bad because to her, they were making fun of Desi instead of making it a tribute, as apparently it was advertised. Anyone have an opinion? I've never seen it, though I think it may be on DVD.
Schmoopie 07-17-2009, 02:45 AM Desi Arnez hosted SNL? I thought he died a long time ago. Or are you talking about Desi Arnez, Jr? I hadn't heard about this at all, but now I'm interested in seeing it. I can't imagine SNL doing a tribute to anyone unless they were intending on insulting/making fun of the person.
70s show watcher 07-17-2009, 05:05 AM it was a very funny show and despite what lucie says i never got the vibe that they were making fun of him in the least and they certanly did not force him to do any sketch that he was uncomfortable with in fact snl producer has forever cited desi;s show as one of his all time fave eps and has nothing but prasie for desi;s work ethic the only cast member that i get a bad vibe from in that ep is chevy chase he does not seem to be enjoying working with desi at all everyone else seemes to really be enjoying the onhr of having him there

Yeah, in like the first season. Ah, here we go...2/21/76. Around the time his book came out.

jayman75 04-22-2012, 07:10 AM Does anyone know where a clip of the show can be viewed? I'd love to see any part of it.
Dr. Thong 04-22-2012, 10:58 AM During the monologue, Desi talked about how they went through different versions of I Love Lucy before they arrived at the show we know and love.
They intercut the monologue with filmed black and white "pilots" featuring Gilda Radner as Lucy and Desi Arnaz Jr. as Desi Senior. One of them was called I Loathe Lucy.
Another was called I Love Louie, which featured Garrett Morris as jazz musician Louie Armstrong.
It was really silly, harmless fun.
He also discusses the many names they came up with for the show, one of them being I Love Loose Change.
mets82 04-22-2012, 11:47 AM I could've sworn that I saw a clip on youtube. Maybe it wasnt youtube but I think hulu.com has it. If you search Saturday Night Live, I think they have all the seasons on there although I could be wrong.

I think Lucie overreacted. It did not seem to me they were making fun of Desi Sr. at all. It appeared he was having a blast. And Desi Jr. was on the show too and I think they both enjoyed working together.
