Describe the experience, what happened....what job did you have? It could be the stupidest little job ever but if it's your first job, it's your first job and it counts. Paper boy, fast food server, babysitter etc. anything counts. My first job was at McDonalds . It was only a few years ago, and the minimum wage was horrible at the time- $6.25. I hated the job, and quit after 4/5 months, but the food made you sick, it was a nasty environment, low paying experience that gave you pimples on your skin anyway, from all the nasty, greasy food you were around, and ate 24/7. Once they trained you, I started out as a chef. I was only cooking the food for a few days, then the rest of my time their, I was food preparation. Just making the meals, not cooking them, and cleaning up. It wasn't hard, and we used to sneak eat chicken mcnuggets, fries and food while the bosses & supervisors weren't looking . What about you? The job, and everything about it ;).

The first and only job I've ever had was working for my landlord for a few Summers. I landscaped, weeded, mowed lawns on all his properties, cleaned roofs, raked leaves, you name it, if it was an outdoor activity, I was on it!! It was nice because it allowed me to work on my own time, I made 10 bucks an hour, and I was able to be outdoors, so I wasn't around large groups of people. He hasn't used me yet this Summer, but I'm hoping some work will come up, and get me out of the house and stuff.

When I was 14 I got a job cleaning gas pumps for a chain of gas stations here in town. It was disgusting, and I think I was exposed to far too many chemicals but it did pay pretty well. They paid me $5 per gas pump and I cleaned them every two weeks. There were three stations with 12 pumps per station so I made $180 every couple of weeks which wasn't that bad for a teenager in 1990. It was bad in the winter though...I thought I would freeze to death and my hands were so red and chapped all the time. I quit that job when I was hired at a daycare center my junior year of highschool.

My first job was in the stockroom at Target. I started in September of 1994 when I was a senior in high school. It was a great learning experience and I met some new friends. After graduating from high school in June 1995 and before starting junior college in Jan 1996, I also did overnight shifts twice a week. It was a great experience, but I would not want to spend a long period of time doing night shift. I left the stockroom in October 1996 to work on the salesfloor.

Back in 1986(when I was 16) I had a job for a local auto parts chain(which lasted until I went off to college), I worked at different stores- stocking, landscaping. I helped two of my friends get jobs there, which was probably why it was more fun than it could have been.
The only really exciting story was at one of the stores in downtown Portland there was a body found in the dumpster.

i delivered newspapers from the age of 11 until about 17, and i did data-entry jobs that my dad helped me get in the summers from about 13 -on.

i actually got my first paid job writing a computer program when i was about 15, it was a little program that took raw weather data, converted it into a chart and would send it to a printer.

i worked at a snow cone stand for a whole summer. i rather enjoyed it. each day was just either crushing ice or pouring the flavors (i switched off with a coworker every day) and always got a free snow cone. for some reason the bright environment (eg. the colorful flavor bottles on the stand) made it interesting and fun, lol.

My first job was a cook at KFC. I got no free food and never got a raise the whole year I was there(I dont think nobody else did either, and this was back when mimimun wage was $4.25). To top that off I had the ultimate jerk for a boss. I so had to get out of that place, and no matter what happens I dont think I could ever work fast food again.

That does suck! My 2nd job was waitressing at a ma&pa owned restaurant across the street from my apt. John was cheap as could be, I always had to argue with him over my hours (he always tried to short me - I was making $1.50 an hr), but even he would allow us free coffees and something to eat at least a couple of times a week. Sometimes he'd even get out in the kitchen and cook something up himself for us. Course, this wasn't a fast food place either. My friends worked at McDonalds but I refused to wear the polyester uniform back then!

You too eh? Actually, the owner of that clothing store was a perv - always trying to get me over to his house on a Sunday (the only day he didn't work) to "have some wine with him"! I was 15 yrs old at the time!!! That's when I thought I should quit and why I owed him money rather than working it off.
I've also had a couple of other strange experiences in retail - one was a job that lasted 3 days (and 2 1/2 days longer than it should!!). I thought it was a ladies lingerie store in Toronto. Turned out to be a sex shop as well!!! I was 18 at the time and knew something was wrong when the owner told me to call her by another name while we were at work.

It does suck when restaurants you work at don't want to give you free food. During my freshman year of college I worked at a restaurtant where the weekend manager didn't let any of employees get a free meal.

I think Target is a great place for a first job. With the customers alone, you are going to meet a wider range of different people then you would working at a place like Forever 21 in the mall. I think working at Target was a great learning experience. I leanred more about life and people than I ever learned in school.

I rarely had the customers thing happening - only during the holiday season. And even so, for only a hour.

I love that they use plastic pallets. SO MUCH EASIER TO MOVE. Light plastic pallets for general merchandise, and the hard, heavy-duty pallets for grocery and really heavy items like maybe sporting goods and certain seasonal merchandise. But some of the overnight people just made me go "WTF?" like this one night I was putting away grocery pulls, and I found a box of cereal that HAD A PIECE OF WOODEN PALLET STICKING OUT OF IT. (only time wooden pallets were used were for multiple cases of the same item in the backroom... I really don't remember my Target having wooden pallets at all) I was thinking to myself, "WTF? That's OK to put that out on the sales floor? OH HELL NO. That's going to the defective merchandise area in the back!"

Cool! My mom's first job was during the summer down in the Niagara region but she was PICKING strawberries and raspberries. It was hot, backbreaking work and she swore she ate most of what she picked. LOL
These were then sold to fruit markets and processing plants. She liked it because they stayed in dorms and then went to dances to meet guys on the weekends. Sounds like a good summer for a 16 yr old to me.

In the processing plant we worked 7 days a week (early in the season and late in the season it was 6 days a week) and long hours. So their were no dances for us or any other social life for that matter. Just working, eating, and sleeping! Not the funnest way to spend your summer when your a teenager. But in hindsight I can now appreciate the experience and the money I was able to put in the bank.

My first job was delivering newspapers when I was 14. I had to collect money every 2 weeks from the customers, which was $3. I got paid according to how many customers I had. The newspaper guy would drop off the papers in the afternoon, and every two weeks he's come to collect the funds. Some weeks he never came, and the cash billed up. I ended up taking more than I was suppose to take (LOL) and when he did come, I had to call and tell him the money was ready before I dip any further into the funds.

Kyle, I also did the McDonalds thing, but I loved it. The pay stunk, but I worked with a crew that we all considered each other friends. We all liked working with each other. Those were some good times! This was when I was 17-18 years old.

I worked after school Monday-Friday from 4-6 at a daycare. It was a nice job, but it only lasted a month. One day I came into work and the director told me that I couldn't work there anymore. I went home and told my mom that I'd been fired, but didn't know why. She called my boss and it turns out that it was just a layoff. I didn't really have a specific job; I was a "floater" but it was really fun while it lasted. I cringe when I think of how "bad" that interview went, though. I think I did everything they tell you not to do in interviews. But still, it landed me a job, so it must not have been too bad!

I worked at a coffee shop for a year. Some of the hours were horrible though. The first half of the year, I mainly worked nights and closed on numerous times. When we would close, we'd get out anytime between 12:30AM-1AM. Then the second half of the year, I changed my school schedule, so I would open (at 4:30AM!) most of the days. The regular customers were amazing, other customers weren't. Lol. I loved the people I worked with and am still very much in touch with them. Plus, I got free coffee and pastries-it was worth it! ;)

My first real paying job was summer work at the university when I was in my teens, moving furniture and mopping floors. My boss got off a half-hour before I did, so I would make sure to finish my work by then -- and spend the last half-hour at the campus library reading magazines before clocking out...!

My first "permanent" job was in a wire harness factory. The maintenance people would oil the machines while they were running, so I got a nice spray of brown oil on my pants every night. Not good!
