i agree the cartoons we have today are mostly crap. especially the ones aimed at youngsters. what they are showing on nickelodeon and cartoon network is nowhere as good or interesting as what we had back in the 60s,
70s, 80s and early 90s.

although it seems that cartoons these days are trying to appeal to older people, with family guy and american dad. but i prefer the cartoons where though it was aimed at kids, they each had a cult status which meant anyone of anyone age could enjoy them. thundercats, tom and jerry, scooby doo, alvin and the chipmunks etc. not yu-gi-oh, family guy, american dad etc.

which is why i watch the classics on you tube. todays cartoons just don't compare whatsoever.

I completely agree with you. I miss the old cartoons! When Cartoon Network started airing, I thought it was so cool that I'd be able to watch The Flintstones, The Jetsons and some of the other awesome cartoons I loved as a kid. Unfortunately they don't show any of those. I would love to see a whole channel full of classic cartoons; even the classic Disney cartoons, like Steamboat Willy, etc.

Although it's kind of cool that newer feature length cartoons are computer animated, and it gives kind of a 3-D effect (my favorite is "Bee Movie"), I do miss the older ones.

I think it's because the cartoons of the 40's and 50's have sophistication and were played in theaters, so it was just too damn expensive to make...but it was worth every penny!

But don't get me wrong with TV....Once TV came, some cartoons were crap. But when Hanna-Barbera made TV Cartoons, they were simple. Then there was Rocky and Bullwinkle which appealed to both adults and children...which is now amissed.

Even The Simpsons aren't an appeal to many.

Well actually, 2-D hand drawn animation hasn't fazed out completely. Many studios in America still use the process but the storyboards are more than likely outsourced to Asian markets to do the dirty work. Something about it being cheaper I suppose?

I strongly believe that studios here do not take the art form very passionately anymore because 3-D animation is the hot thing nowadays.

I think that we will see a resurgence of traditional animation to a degree. Walt Disney's Princess And The Frog looks old school so maybe if that film does moderately well, all hope might not be lost for alot of us cartoon traditionalists. Well...I hope. :o

Yes, they did cartoons much better before. And I can't wait for The Princess And The Frog. It seems great.. like the good old days!

Hanna-Barbera's "Cattanooga/Scooby" and on era garbage [Scooby, 1970s Pebbles and Bamm Bamm, and the Smurfs], but the first severel. Evfen Rocky and Bullwinkle avoided the Simpsons expensive custom scoring by using stock-music themes just like others. Both were great..but when relative hacks ,late 60s H-B directors handled Hanna-Barbera, things went downhill. Characters wound up realistic looking.]
