If the Keatons had had a room that was a library in their home what books do you think they would have had?

Yeah, I can see Steven and Elyse having those books. Also, The Lord of the Rings novels were very popular among the counterculture.

I think that they would probably have Slaughterhouse Five in their library. In one episode Elyse even referred to it as a great book.

Steven and Elyse would most likely have books on child rearing and development, with quite a few by Dr. Spock. I imagine cookbooks on healthy cooking and eating, as well as books on the benefits of organic fruits and vegetables. Elyse's favorite cookbook, The Joy of Soy: Tofu Burgers and More, would have a place on the bookshelf. I think they would also have some books about Woodstock. Lots of political books. Liberal reading for the parents, and Conservative reading for Alex. For Mallory, books on fashion. For Jennifer, music books. For Andrew, a starter book on politics, called, Raising a Republican: It's Never Too Early, inscribed of course, by big brother, Alex. :)

Alex would have most if not practically all of the books devoted to Ron & Nancy Reagan, including Where's the Rest of Me, An American Life, and Ronnie and Nancy: Their Path to the White House --1911 to 1980.

Elyse of course would have books on Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan in her extensive architecture library.

The books mentioned sound like good choices. :)
