When Suzanne Somers does any interviews, (that I have seen), she rarely mentions her work on Step By Step. When she does do interviews, she ALWAYS mentions being fired from Three's Company.

I have wondered about that too. Maybe she doesn't talk much about SBS because it wasn't always popular as Three's Company. I really loved her work on SBS as a mother/stepmother figure.

I've never seen "Three's company". Maybe it was never shown in Sweden? (There was a Swedish version of it in the 90s though.) But I liked "Step by step". I don't think Suzanne should be ashamed of it, or whatever.

I also loved Step by Step and let's face it to younger audiences, she is more remembered for this show than by Three's Company.

She wasn't really known for SBS and it wasn't nearly as a popular as Three's Company. I would like it if she would give a shout out to SBS once in awhile, lol.

But wasn't "Step by step" a popular show too?

Yes, but Three's Company was sort of a phenomenon. SBS wasn't really popular, most people watched it along with their Friday night lineup on abc. It wasn't very recognizable, it didn't stand out.

Hmmm, well, I'm not that familiar with "Three's company" at all, but I'm familiar with this show. After all, I'm Swedish, and since I was born in 1984, "Three's company" was before my time, which this show wasn't.

Really? that's funny. Don't get me wrong SBS's ratings were good but it wasn't a package show.

I read in an old article that a rerun episode back in June of 1993 got an 8.2 rating.

Baseball playoff games don't draw that type of rating today!

Yup, hence why it was on the air for so long.

SBS was a hit show but it wasn't a top ranked show. TC competed for the #1 spot in the country in the late 70's when more people actually watched network TV. In 1979 they had a 30.3 rating. SBS usually landed in the 20's or 30's in the ratings and had consistent ratings with the rest of the TGIF lineup. Ratings didn't really start going down until Cody left and then they just tanked when they went to CBS.

What was the number one show in the country at time Sonny?

In the late 70's Laverne and Shirley was #1 ( 1977-78, 1978-79). In some publications they have TC ranked #1 in 1978-79 because it was so close. A couple of points seperated them. In 1979-80 TC was ranked #2 again and was the top ranked sitcom. During the era that STS aired 60 Minutes, Seinfeld and ER all were #1 at one time or another.

Yeah that makes sense.

I did some more research on 'Step's ratings, and the numbers surprised me:

February 21, 1992- 11.6

February 7, 1992- 13.0

January 24, 1992- 13.1

October 30, 1992- 11.7 (That was when Karen tried to be a model. An 11.7! That stunned me- I guess at least half a million other young boys had the hots for Angie)

Those numbers surprised me- I never knew that 'Step' drew numbers like that!

I have a new line I can use- more people were watching Angela Watson than people will watch baseball games these days. (Trust me, recent baseball ratings are awful.)

Yea all numbers were bigger back then. It shows how many viewers the networks have really lost. Maybe if they put some quality shows back on like SBS things would change. Another thing SBS aired on Fridays too. People watched TV on Fridays back then. Today next to Saturday, it's the lowest night of viewership on network tv. I wouldn't be surprised if they just started airing reruns like Saturday nights eventually.

The TV world has changed so dramatically. People would rather watch reality shows and mocumentaries then sitcoms and dramas. Although there are some dramas out right now that seem to be pretty popular, but still are very different then the classics. Everything these days has to realistic or ironic in order to be funny or watchable.

I wouldn't be that pessimistic. But I have to admit, that the kind of sitcom, that "Step by step" represented seems to have died out with the new millennium. All sitcoms today are either just for grown-ups or just for kids. There are no "family sitcoms" like this one, and "The Cosby show", "Family Ties" and "Family Matters", out there anymore.
