Once upon a time, Gilligan got stuck on another planet

A lot of people think that The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island is the worst example of the Gilligan's Island movies and spinoffs we've had over the years. But this could rival it. It's a show I put out of my mind until I saw a link about it on Pop Culture Junk Mail. It's Gilligan's Planet. That's right, planet. They tried to get off the island via rocket ship and landed on another world (but couldn't find their way back to Hawaii??). Please note that Dawn Wells does the voice of Maryann and Ginger.

I remember Gilligan's Planet.

I also remember Partridge Family 2200 A.D.

One thing you can always say about the 70's; people weren't afraid to take chances creatively! ;)

I prefer "The New Adventures of Gilligan" over "Gilligans Planet".

I remember Gilligans Planet. All the more reason why one should stick to the original TV series.

I have Gilligan's Planet (I might have New Adventures of Gilligan too) and Partridge Family 2200! I just recently got the Jackson 5 Cartoons too. I remember watching them all when they first aired. Oh and I have ALL those Gilligan TV Movies too! OH, the things we watched! LOL!

I remember when Entertainment Tonight did a story on "Gilligan's Planet." It took place at one of the recording sessions and they asked Jim Backus what he thought was the reason that people still wanted to keep bringing Gilligan's Island back againg and again. His response was "Because, it's so damn funny."

I thought "Gilligan's Island" was a delightful little show, and a definite improvement over "The New Adventures of Gilligan." There are two reasons for this:

1. Sweet Dawn Wells was back, which meant that the real Mary Ann was back. The actress who played Mary Ann in the New Adventures had a harsh, strident voice that sounded nothing like Mary Ann. Her performance here made me realize just what the milieu had lost without her.

2. In the "New Adventures," the writers were forced to build a heavily didactic moral lesson into each episode. The problem with these lessons was that in order to learn how to be better people, the castaways had to be pretty bad people to begin with, and were outrageously selfish, lazy, rude, vain and greedy (with the exception of Gilligan). In "Gilligan's Planet," the castaways were able to return to their kindlier selves.

"Gilligan's Planet" had some very creative stories as well as a running feud between Mr. Howell and Gilligan's pet alien, Bumper, that added lots of humour. I wish they could have done a few more seasons.
