Did anyone ever have a unique way of watching/hearing UM that a "casual" fan probably would never do?

I used to audiotape some segments as a kid around 1994/95 with a tape recorder next to the tv, when I either ran out of blank space on VHS tapes or sometimes I just liked having an "easy" version of it. I'm such a geek I'd even listen to them on a walkman or even occasionally in the tape deck when I was in the car with my mom. I'm a huge music fan and for awhile I probably listened to segments as much as songs! ;)

The only thing I regret now is that I sometimes did that instead of videotaping it - I wish I had some of those episodes now.

I used to do that with other shows when I was younger (The Monkees, for example). I thought I was the only one!

Oh cool I thought I was the only one to do it with tv shows. :) Music is one thing since it records decently if there's no background noise (I did that with VH1 and MTV in the early 90s when they mostly played videos), but I liked doing it with segments since I'd get really acquainted with the cases. I just hated when my memory of the visuals started slipping, lol.

I even did that with movies I saw in the theatre around that same time (i.e. City Slickers 2, Dumb and Dumber).

Heck, I still do it. I pull the audio off the segments and put them on CD's, then listen to them while I drive. It sure does kill the time.

I never did this with UM but when I was a teenager I did this with Scooby Doo & Roseanne. LOL

I also watched UM daytime during summer breaks because my parents don't want me around that show too much. They think it's too scary (next to X-files:p ).

But Stack's voice narrations have always piqued interest in me.

I'm the same way. I like having it on in the background while I'm working on a project or some other thing, or when I'm lifting weights.

I've started to load a few onto my iPod as well, so that I can watch them while traveling.

What I have for UM on DVD/VHS I really don't sit anymore & just watch them. Nowadays I just put in a dvd or vhs & I will be at the puter doing different things & I will listen to the different cases. From time to time I will glance at the tv.

It's nice having your puter desk next to the entertainment center with the tv. :D

Somewhere, I may still have an audio recording of the Gilbert Ortiz segment made for pretty much the same reason as the OP suggested - a lack of video recording tape at the time.

I know what you mean! I like to do crafts or paint while listening.

Wow, I do the same thing for the background too (I also have the computer and the tv in the same area). I think with diehard fans like us, it's alot like music in the sense where you've heard it so much that it's like an old friend. That's another reason I love rewatching tv shows, picking up on new things later on.

Sometimes I get a slightly different impression if I haven't seen something in awhile too. For example I really like the show Blossom (probably one of the few guy fans ;) ) and watched it when I was 12-14. I only have one episode left on tape and it's one of the sillier ones...but I just got the DVDs of the first two seasons and watched it for the first time in years, so I can understand the serious elements and people's feelings alot better now since I'm on the other side of high school.

Since UM is like a detective show with lots of possibilities (something I've always liked, I'm a big thinker) it's the same way.

I'm fooling around with the idea of making a UM soundtrack. It would require very little except for sitting through the episodes and rewriting the music, the only problem is there is no way I could reproduce some of those sounds with my equipment...especially that ascending whisper/gasp sound that happens during a freaky moment. But I'm still exploring it.

It would be a fan tribute, I wouldn't want any profit from it and would only share with UM friends/freaks like us...so hopefully they wouldn't complain.

Just thought I'd dig up one of my old threads.

I'm such a geek I just recently did the modern day version of what I used to do in the 90s - ripped the mp3 audio off the YT segments and put a bunch onto my ipod. Thing is I usually have it on shuffle since I like so many songs and usually would rather it's mixed, so sometimes the audio part of segments (I did about 20 of my favorite ones) will randomly pop up. :lol:

Now that I have my new phone I find myself listening to the show (that's listening, not watching- I turn the monitor face down in the seat so I am not distracted) and listen to it on the way home from work.

Also, I like to just have it on in the background when doing stuff at home. Then if a segment comes on I have not seen before, or in a while, I stop and watch it.

I used to tape it often when I was a kid. Then I recorded the airing on lifetime to a disc (last count I was over 100 discs. Of course out of those, cokeville and Gilbert ortiz are on every disc at least twice (thank you lifetime :p ).

But yeah, I watch them a lot in various forms.

My husband thinks I'm a little too crazy about UM. Although I could probably get away with the trenchcoat thing, he'd probably faint dead away at the UM theme accompanyment.
