Sony is re-packaging and re-releasing the first 6 seasons on September 1, 2009. Why?!?!?!? This is crazy. What good does this do? Has anyone else seen these up for pre-order?

I think he maybe talking about the re-elease of the season s on that piece of Sh*t of a set with the Norman Lear Sitcoms

No, that "piece of sh*t" as you so perfectly put it Solomon was one "piece of sh*t"...:D This is a whole other stupid, pointless Sony project.

If you type in "All in the Family" at amazon or dvdempire.com, they come up. On amazon, they are on the second page of the search.

Here is an example from each store:
http://www.amazon.com/All-Family-Complete-Sixth-Season/dp/B002E58FUG/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1245813548&sr=1-20
http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?item_id=1477055

They are doing this for the sets that are already available. Not sure if they will include anything new. Is it possible they are going to include stuff from that Norman Lear set. Talk about re-hashing something that was dumb to begin with (talking about the Lear set). With only 3 seasons left, what the hell is Sony doing???

They ususally wait until ll the seasons are out before the re-release

Maybe it's a good thing. They're re-releasing the first six seasons so it will be fresh on the store shelves (or online shelves) so they can announce season seven. I hope so anyways. I'd like to own this whole series, including the Archie Bunker's Place episodes.

Not just All in the Family and Archie Bunker, but The Jeffersons too. And are we going to see the second seasons of Maude and One Day at a Time. Sony's marketing strategies are a mystery to me!

I don't see how re-releasing what was already on the shelves is a good thing. They can do that with the remaining seasons for All in the Family and the Jeffersons

Just the fact that they're doing something with the show. I admit, it's not the right thing to do. The right thing to do would be releasing season seven followed by the remaining seasons. But this is Sony we're talking about. So maybe in their minds if they re-release the first six seasons it will spark interest and get us all ready for season seven.

You'd think if they would re-release them, they'd go for the complete series. Not just the seasons that are already out. But like I say, it's Sony, one of the worst DVD companies out there. And yet they have a lot of good shows.

The only explanation I can come up with is that it would include the All in the Family segments of the extras from the Norman Lear set (which should have been included in the first place) and that they intend to follow up with season 7 and beyond. What would be the point to re-releasing the same sets? Don't retailers have them backstocked anyway?

Maybe they are lowering the prices...I admit...I'd like to hear the Rob material that is supposed to be on the Lear set but I think much of it may be "rehashed" if you will from other interviews and the same things being said really. I'd love to see more seasons of a lot of Sony shows but I'm not taking bets on when they might be released other than to say maybe when the terrabyte discs become as old hat as DVD is now we'll see the entire series come out and at a very reasonable price. Until then...(sigh).

It's also strange that they are doing this for All in the Family and not The Jeffersons. However, I guess this may be a sort of test for the show in re-release form.

Don't quote me on this but I think they did something similar with The Shield. I think they re-released the show when the rights were turned over to them and added the next season as a new release. Wish they would have done that in this case and, at least, given us Season 7 of AITF.

If it really was low sales that made Sony's decision to halt releases for a while, it is surprising to me. I thought it would have made it to "Complete Series" set status in no time considering the history and popularity of the show.

I agree Robert13 that it is strange. I just say go through with the season seven release and keep it moving.

I called Sony and spoke to a representative this morning. He says they are indeed re-releasing the first 6 seasons of AITF and The Jeffersons with smaller packing and lower prices. He also says it's purpose is to sell directly to consumers who haven't purchased the sets, in order to boost more sales, hoping to release future seasons of both shows.

Thanks for checking that out. Its nice to know whats going on. I just got the NL Set and was going to start collecting the subsequent seasons of both shows, but now I'll wait for the new packaging. I hope it does indeed mean the remaining seasons will be released. What about Maude and One Day at a Time?????

I didn't ask about Maude and ODDAT, but if the smaller packing concept works for AITF and Jeffersons, Sony might use that concept for their shows with remaining unreleased seasons.
