This isn't some random thought I suddenly had this morning, it's actually in response to AOL Television's list of the 40 best TV shows of the 1970s. The Odd Couple, one of the great, laugh-out-loud comedies of all-time, comes in at number 21, while The Brady Bunch comes in at number 15. Sometimes shows can't be judged the same (for example, comedy vs. drama or drama vs. animated), but come on, The Brady Bunch so far ahead of The Odd Couple?

I don't think I'm giving anything away by revealing that shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show, M*A*S*H, and All in the Family are at the top, but there are a few entries that you and your friends can argue about.

That's insane! The Odd Couple deserves to be in the top 10, at least. I loved the Brady Bunch when I was a kid and I watch it occasionally on TV Land, but theres no way it's a better show than the Odd Couple. I hardly get more than a small chuckle out of an episode of The Brady Bunch. I'd put it near the bottom of that list.

Oh no question about it, Odd Couple is much better.

Earlier this year my roommate recorded a bunch of Odd Couple episodes on the DVR, and the comedy still holds up after 30 years.

OH Nuts!

The Odd Couple was, is and always will be a true classic. Witty, sophisticated writing with two great actors who had tons of comedic chemistry and talent. Not only one of the best sitcoms of the 70s, but of all time. The Brady Bunch, on the other hand, was lightweight, bland and unfit to even be mentioned in the same sentence with TOC. By all rights, no one over the age of ten (with an IQ over fifty) should even find this piece of fluff remotely amusing. Why it's always been so popular is beyond me.
