View Full Version : O&H Collectors . . . Let's Unite . . .
We all know which episodes are on the Mill Creek Set, the 2 Shout releases, the Christmas release.
Rich P has told us what is on Alpha #11
Gidgetgrape told us what is on Alpha #12
Your assignment collectors, if you chose to accept, is:
Check your Dollar Store DVD's and Ebay DVD's and Amazon DVD's and any other DVD releases.
Post the titles you find on the DVD's and list the company [Alpha, Brentwood, Genius, etc], run times of the episodes would be helpful to know if they are edited or not, the year of the release if you like. We don't have to make it too complicated.
Pictures can come later, if they can be matched up.
It would just be soooo nice to have a list of what is available ''out there''.
Also, it would be nice to save us from purchasing one that does not list the episodes, if someone already has it and can identify the episodes.
This would be so helpful to all of us to avoid getting yet another copy of ''A Lamp For Dave & June'' & ''Tigers Go To Dance''.
You can all post your finds in this thread and I will weed through it, match up some pictures if I can, and then maybe will do a final post with the results.
Anyone up to the challenge?

LOL I have eight copies of "The Tigers Go To The Dance" & its not even one of my favs. Actually its one of the very few I've only seen once or twice. If you buy the buck ones in the store, the titles are usually listed. I'll have to go through mine... (btw) how many eps are you up to now?
gidgetgrape 06-20-2009, 05:30 PM Cool idea! I want some Tutti-Frutti ice cream for this.
Alpha Volume #1: 1 hour, 45 minutes
Episode 1: Harriet organizes a social dance at the Women's Club and invites 20 little girls in party dresses. Ozzie volunteers to supply the young, neighborhood boys for the social - but he soon discovers that the little kids would much rather be playing baseball than dancing.
Episode 2: The Nelsons are getting worried. It's been almost two weeks since David and his wife called or visited. But, in an effort not to appear too "snoopy" Ozzie and Harriet dream up an imaginative way to "keep in touch."
Episode 3: It's David Nelson's first day back at the law office following his honeymoon and trying to keep his newlywed romance in full swing hardly seems possible with such a busy work schedule.
Episode 4: Ozzie is scheduled to deliver a lecture to the Men's Club on "The Importance Of Keeping Organized And Being On Time" only he forgets the appointment, gets to the banquet hall late and winds up delivering the lecture - to the wrong audience.
Alpha Volume #2: 1 hour, 45 minutes
Episode 1: Ozzie becomes an expectant father to a trio of robin's eggs nesting in his rain gutter. To hurry them along, Ozzie tries to hatch the eggs - himself!
Episode 2: Seventeen-year-old David tries to score points with a girl who only dates college boys - and Harriet thinks she has the perfect plan!
Episode 3: Ricky and his wife try to help their friend Wally regain his confidence and get back his girl - so they fix him up with the homecoming queen. But Ricky winds up taking her to the dance instead!
Episode 4: Chaos erupts in David's law office when his wife fills in for his vacationing secretary. The trick now is how to fire her!
Alpha Volume #3: 1 hour, 45 minutes
LAMP FOR DAVE & JUNE: June has her heart set on a very expensive lamp that they just can't afford so she comes up with a plan. She and David will scale back on some "minor" items - such as food and transportation!
PAINTING FROM THE PAST: Jealousy ensues when Rick's wife accidentally finds a work of art that he painted for an ex- girlfriend.
RICK AND THE MAID OF HONOR: Rick has pre-marital jitters - only he's not the one getting married! When a good friend is about to walk down the aisle, Rick and his on-again / off-again girlfriend ponder the future of their own relationship.
RICK GROWS A BEARD: In an effort to get Rick to shave his beard, Ozzie, Dave and Rick's friend, Wally, all wear fake beards.
Alpha Volume #6: 1 hour, 45 minutes
Ozzie, Joe, and the Fashion Models: Ozzie and Joe go on a fishing trip to remote Crystal Lake where they are surprised to meet two gorgeous fashion models.
Road Race: Ozzie contends that the old hot-rods of the 20s can hold their own and even outrace their new-fangled 1950s cousins. A challenge is issued and the town arranges for Ozzie to race against "the kids."
The Suggestion Box: Claiming to be able to handle constructive criticism, Ozzie creates a family "suggestion box."
Tutti-Frutti Ice Cream: The Nelson's get fixated on Tutti-Frutti ice cream and the entire family sets out on a late-night odyssey as they attempt to bring a gallon home. This episode features a spectacular song and dance production with the entire Nelson family.
Alpha Volume #7 1 hour, 46 minutes
Evening with Hamlet: After insisting on a family Shakespeare night, Ozzie learns that the boys are having a big poker game that evening.
Halloween Party: Ozzie and Thorny plan the annual Halloween party down to the last detail - or so they think.
The New Chairs: A minor delivery mistake leads to major chaos when Ozzie steps in to straighten things out.
The Pancake Mix: Ozzie and Ricky become obsessed with the "double your money back" guarantee on the Hasty Tasty Pancake package.
Alpha Volume #8: 1 hour, 56 minutes
A Letter About Harriet: Joe and Ozzie are embarrassed into entering the newspaper essay contest - "Why I Love My Wife."
The Car Mix-Up: Harriet drives home from the market and realizes the groceries on the front seat aren't hers - and neither is the car!
The Duenna: The duenna (chaperone) for Dave's Latina date makes amorous advances on a bewildered Ozzie.
The Petition: Rick and Dave concoct a phony "Wives Day" petition, which brings chaos to the Nelson household when folks take it seriously.
Alpha Volume #9 1 hour, 50 minutes
A Ball Of Tin Foil: Determined to clean-up the junk in the Nelson garage and closets, Ozzie rents a large trailer. His simple plan to haul the load to the junk yard does not work out as intended.
Dave And The Fraternity Lease: Dave's fraternity has 24 frantic hours to get the frat house into "reasonably good condition" - or lose their lease!
David Picks Up The Tab: Dave treats his mom and dad as well as his date to dinner at a swanky restaurant. When the check arrives, so does trouble.
Odd Bolt: Ozzie finds an odd bolt in his "important things" box. He turns the entire Nelson household upside down in his frenzied attempt to remember where it belongs.
Alpha Volume #10: 1 hour, 56 minutes
Bachelor: John Archer is a contented bachelor until Harriet and her girlfriends conspire to turn him into a "happily married" man.
Little Black Box: Harriet bets Ozzie that he will not be able to resist a peek inside a mysterious black box.
Little Handprints: A chunk of sidewalk with David and Ricky's little handprints proves too sentimental to toss out.
Motorcycle: David wants to buy a new motorcycle and Ozzie is determined to talk him out of it.
Alpha Volume #13 will be released on July 28, 2009. I don't know which 4 episodes will be on it yet. 1 hour, 54 minutes

I have most of the sets shown or the episodes on other DVD's. I got a set of about 200 episodes years ago from a trader but the rest I have were bought from Amazon, Deep Discount and Dollar Stores. I haven't seen any DVD's in Dollar stores recently. I wonder if they stopped selling all DVD's?

1. The Kappa Sigma Party (10-03-56)

They sound right; not like Platinum, which REALLY SCREWED UP some of the titles. And btw I think you did an amazing job listing what you had - it was extremely helpful.
gidgetgrape 06-25-2009, 11:09 PM ^^^Thanks!
I am sorry, Gidgetgrape. I only mentioned the incorrect titles in the event that you might want know that some of the episodes were titled wrong on the covers & DVD's. Rather than take my word for it, I thought you might want to check on it yourself. That's all ;)
No need to apologize CJ! I wasn't offended and welcome corrections. I was just stating that I don't know anything else about what I posted. Sorry, if it came out rudely. Peace! :)

You did an awesome job posting all of those DVD's  I didn't want you to think I expected you to watch them all for accuracy  but I did want everyone to take note that some titles were wrong on the covers.
It is frustrating the number of incorrect titles on so many of the releases. Perhaps, we can do a thread later with common mistakes on the titles. I document all episodes when I find a synopsis online, or in an old TV Guide, or once I view an episode with no previous information.
TeeVeeCloset 06-26-2009, 10:42 AM This is a great idea my dear friend CJ.....I personally have about 200 16mm films of O&H......many are the exact film copies that the public domain companies use.....I recently transferred to DVD episodes that are not usually found on the dvd's....some are cut films though, some have original commercials, some have countdowns, original color episodes are in black & white since TV stations still showed the show in B&W when it was in color.
as far as I know none of the following episodes appear on either the 100 Episode Mill Creek Box or the first Shout Set. I have put them in Season order......so even though my collection is not officially available on commercial/PD DVD's, I thought it would still be a valuable contribution to the project, so we know what is "out there" and is available from me.

No opening or ending credits on any of the episodes.
Kris and the Queen 9/29/1965 24:15
A Wife in the Office 2/5/1964 24:31

For this release, I'd like to add the "Item #," which is TV-717.
Just to clarify, this is definitely considered Volume 1 of the two Digiview releases, though not labeled as such. Its previews of available products are clearly those of their earlier title discs (of other shows and films) when compared with Volume 2, already covered by gidgetgrape in this thread.

There are SO MANY great episodes - Wally's Traffic Ticket is one of my very special fav's. Hmmmm...now one with Ozzie at his best...well "Ozzie's Night Out" from the early yrs was quite fun and I really liked "The Tangled Web" where he impersonates Joe Randolph to help Clara out of a spot.
matt77b 09-16-2009, 07:11 PM Amazon has Alpha volume 15 coming out on Sept. 29. Has anyone seen an episode list yet? Alpha seems to be the only company putting out O&H DVDs right now.

OH Nuts! 12-10-2010, 05:43 PM Wow! Sound great. 2 eps I don't have are on it. Will buy it as soon as I see it at J & R
ILUVO&H 12-10-2010, 10:25 PM I'm confused on the title for Boxing Matches.
The description doesn't sound like anything about boxing. But I'm confused because before when I was trying to figure out what episodes were what of what I had, I had thought this episode was one where there are Boxing matches going on at the local boys club. Thorny and Ozzie compare what great boxers they used to be. And are asked by the coach to put on the gloves on night. Now if that episode isn't Boxing Matches, I'm puzzled on what episode it is now.
Thank you gidgetgrape for all your help in keeping this thread alive :)
I checked some online O&H episode guides and here is what they list for "The Boxing Matches":
Ozzie gets a lesson in fisticuffs when he challenges Thorny to a boxing match. The Nelsons: Themselves. Thorny: Don DeFore.
Novice boxer Thorny belts experienced Ozzie.
After doing a little too much bragging about their past exploits, Ozzie and Thorny are faced with the prospect of squaring off against each other in a boxing exhibition at the local scout camp.
The synopsis given by www.oldies.com sounds more like it is for this episode:
2.23 [062] Ozzie & Harriet: HARRIET GIVES A PARTY
Prod. no. 27-063 / 19Feb1954
ILUVO&H 12-12-2010, 10:11 PM Thanka CJ, that sounds a lot more like it.
rzombie1988 05-29-2011, 07:12 PM So I'm curious, what's the official available episode list up to now?

OH Nuts! 03-05-2012, 09:48 PM Thanks for the info gidgetgrape. I don't have three of these eps, so I'm gonna go for it as soon as it comes out!
TeeVeeCloset 03-06-2012, 07:25 PM I know for a collector, especially of O&H it is very difficult not to support any release that contains episodes you haven't seen......
For various reasons, I seldom post here anymore, I still love everyone at sitcoms, but had to leave for personal reasons.....
I have publically said I am supporting and working with Sam Nelson on his restoration project. I am not saying we communicate daily, are best friends, no not at all.....BUT.....I have spent about 4 hours personally with him and we do exchange personal emails....The hours I spent with this very wonderful gentle man and hearing his ideas of what and how he wishes to have his project realized. I of course asked many "off the record" questions about public domain sets, Shouts edited sets, etc.......I will say Sam and the estate are very upset about unauthorized DVD releases of the show....Sam is not motivated by money, he is so genuine about eventually getting all 14 seasons released, remastered and uncut. Yes the wait may be very long, perhaps till 2015......but it will be worth the wait.....and if you ask "why don't they go after these unauthorized releases?" well the money it would cost, would drain the estate and it is very difficult to stop one because another one just pops up in its place. So it is much better for Sam to concentrate his efforts on his upcoming official releases and then hopefully the bootlegs will then dry up.
As written before I personally even showed him this board, he was very touched and could see the passion in all of us.......we spent some very meaningful hours and of the 100's of people in the TV industry I associated, Sam ranks in my opinion in the top 5 to be totally genuine.
Again I don't knock anyone for buying unreleased product, but Sam literally says every dollar donated to the kickstarter project which is still accepting donations will get the project done much faster.......Just food for thought and you will see me in the documentary extra!
For now and probably for a very long time or forever, I sadly say so long to the members that understood my long essays at times and the friends I met electronically along the way.

You're welcome. I'm going to get it too. If it weren't for these occasional releases I would never have discovered the show or remained interested in it.

TeeVee, sorry to see that you are leaving the sitcom boards. You always had an interseting perspective.
I can't wait to see what Sam has in store. From reading Sam's interviews it really feels he is invested in this project solely out of love and wanting to preserve his family history.
A labor of love for a father he barely knew, a grandfather he didn't know and a grandmother he loved dearly.
What I always come away with when I read Sams interviews are that in watching Ozzie and Harriet reruns, it helped him to learn who his father and family were. When the show started in 1952 Ricky was 12 years old, the same age Sam was when his father died. It must have been of great comfort to be able to watch those old reruns with Harriet and see his father at his own age and watching him grow up on reruns along side himself while listening to Harriets tales of what was happening in real life and how those 'episodes' translated to their 'reel' life.

matt77b 09-24-2014, 12:42 AM Thanks for posting these updates, gidgetgrape. I'd almost forgotten about the Alpha DVDs, but some of them feature episodes that haven't been released by anyone else, and they are generally of very good picture and sound quality--not like some of the cheap public domain sets that were common before the Shout Factory and Mill Creek sets came out.

You're welcome! Alpha seems to release 1 or 2 of these a year. Maybe we'll get another one before the year is out.
Yes indeed, Gidgetgrape, thank you for keeping this thread alive.
I was really hopeful that there would be some official season sets released by this time, but I no longer expect that will happen in my lifetime.

Weren't the DVDs that to were to be produced among the promised gifts for people who donated to the kickstarter project at or above a certain level? Whatever happened with that? Did they get some other gift instead, or are they still waiting for these DVDs after three or four years?
I do applaud Sam for making the effort--no one else in the family ever seemed interested in doing anything with the show (or not after the 1980s Disney Channel run anyway)--and who knows, maybe something will come of his project eventually. In the meantime, the Mill Creek and Shout Factory sets gave us about one-third of the show's episodes (albeit often in edited form, which I remember caused some fans much consternation), and we got many of Rick's greatest performances on the Ricky Nelson Sings DVD, and in addition to some other episodes of the show being released on DVD by Alpha, youtube has a lot of episodes and Rick Nelson performances (from the show all the way through TV performances and concerts from the last year of his life). And as I've said before, I think that the preponderance of DVDs that have already been released, plus all the episodes on youtube, are part of what might have made Sam's project not commercially viable given all the money that it would apparently cost. Maybe it will come to fruition, but in the meantime there are plenty of episodes and performances by Rick available, and between Alpha and continued postings on youtube, I don't think we've reached the bottom of the well yet even if Sam's project doesn't come to pass.

Ronny G 06-12-2015, 02:33 PM I found this thread very informative, but after reading 6 pages, I must admit I got a little confused with the crossover episodes.
So rather than just try to sort it out myself, I have a question for the experts.
I already own 3 sets: Shout's "Best of" Green and Blue Cover, and Mill Creek's 100 Essential Collection.
I want to collect some more episodes that are missing from the sets I already own.
In your opinion, which set out there should I get that contains the most episodes that are not on those sets I already have.
It sounds like the Alpha video vol. 18 contains 3 episodes not previously released. Is that right?

You're welcome! I'm ordering it too. It'll be neat to also see Tuesday Weld and Susan Oliver. :)
stevea 03-04-2017, 11:00 PM I've ordered some of the Alpha videos--it's really too bad they have to cut out Rick's songs. These musical performances are so old--surely the copyrights on them should have expired by now!
gidgetgrape 03-08-2017, 06:58 PM I watched Alpha Video's Volume 24 today and really enjoyed this batch of episodes. Besides Tuesday Weld and Susan Oliver, there are also appearances by Roberta Shore (The Virginian), Cheryl Holdridge (Leave It To Beaver), Barry Livingston (My Three Sons) and June Nelson. "Rick Gets Even" had Kodak promos and Harriet telling the audience to see David's new movie and buy Rick's new album.
stevea 03-08-2017, 11:47 PM Volume 24 is really good, I agree. I can tell where they cut out Rick's songs, and that is really too bad. I watched 3 of the 4 eps. on Vol. 11 tonight...really a good vol...all three I saw had the original commercials. One episode even showed a snippet of the episode before the start, and I'd never seen that feature before on an O&H (Ozzie hanging upside down, climbing a trellis up to Dave and June's apartment).
