View Full Version : "Jim Belushi was a 100% D-Bag" According to Former Co-Star

If you ask David Cross, life "According to Jim" isn't all that great.

In an advance copy of "I Drink for a Reason," the cult comedian/"Arrested Development" star finally reveals the reason for his long-standing feud with Jim Belushi, whom he continually roasts in both comedy skits and satirical short stories on the Mr. Show Web site.

While filming 1995's "Destiny Turns on the Radio" with Belushi in Las Vegas, Cross says he decided to hit a casino during a break from shooting. His blackjack dealer professed her desire to get Belushi's autograph for her sick 8-year-old son. Cross swiftly agreed to make it happen.

The only problem: He hadn't actually met his castmate yet. Regardless, he soon approached Belushi and launched into a tale of, "This woman's kid is sick - how about doing the right thing and giving him an autograph?"

But Belushi wasn't having it. According to the book (out in August from Hachette Book Group), the star listened to Cross' story about the female blackjack dealer and then snarled, "Jesus, I thought you were gonna get me a b- job."

The less-than-friendly response infuriated Cross, but, putting aside his anger, he reattempted his request.

"Jesus Christ, you're worse than my second wife!" shouted Belushi, before stalking away - without giving a signature or getting, well, what he'd hoped for.

The incident kick-started Cross' hatred of his co-star, and even today, nothing has changed: Cross is still angry. "I would kiss and hug Jim Belushi if I saw him right now," the comedian told us sarcastically at the AMC Lincoln Square on Monday.

When we professed doubt, he responded, "Seriously! If Jim wants to talk about it, that's fine. The story is all in the book. That guy was a full-on 100% d-bag. It was a real incident. If anything, I'd hope if I saw him now he'd apologize."

Don't hold your breath, mister.

This David Cross guy sounds like a major jackass! I hate to sound heartless, but can you blame Belushi for not buying the "sick kid" story? I bet celebs hear that all the time. It would be unfortunate if it were true, but I'm sure he's heard stuff like that before. It's pretty stupid of Cross to agree to try to get Belushi's autograph if he hadn't even met him. I mean and the way he asked Belushi for the autograph, telling him to "do the right thing"? I would have turned him down as well. It sounds like he was being sarcastic and implying that Belushi has no common sense.

Well, I think Jim has a reputation. Cross isn't too far off base, I don't think.

Yes I can blame him for it, it doesn't give him the right to act like an ass. Why not look into the story, he had nothing to lose if it was fake

I don't remember him being on the show that often, so maybe Jim was having a bad day the day he was on the show

I've read places that sometimes actors don't get along. Could be Jim treated him like crap but others he could have been alot nicer with.

Go look on Jim Belushi's IMDb page and there are several threads (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000902/board/?ref_=nm_bd_sm) regarding him alleged being a major jerk/douche (http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/ajax.html?t=9348087#page:showThread,9348087,5).

I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who thinks this way, but Jim Belushi always struck me as a guy who only got as far (http://splitsider.com/2013/04/saturday-nights-children-jim-belushi-1983-1985/) as he was able to get (http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:c734bV-OBeYJ:https://groups.google.com/d/topic/alt.showbiz.gossip/bOmcBSF50wo+&cd=20&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us) because of the tragic, untimely passing of his big brother (http://www.nerve.com/entertainment/ranked/ranked-every-emsaturday-night-live-em-cast-member-ever-from-worst-to-best) John. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Hollywood kept trying to make Jim Belushi "happen" out of pity since John was cut down during his prime (and we didn't get to see what else he could've offered). Basically, it would be as if Bill Murray passed away when he was still relatively young and Hollywood proceeding to try to make his brother Brian-Doyle into a star (despite not having his brother's talent, "it-factor", and/or charisma).

It wouldn’t surprise me if Belushi was an asshat, but definitely will not be taking David Cross word for it. After all who would want Jim Belushi’s autograph.

the worst AtJ episode is the one where Ruby tries to date an 18-year-old. Everyone's mad at the guy but there's much less interest in the 12 year old Ruby's bad judgement.

Side note: A woman who works as a intimacy coordinator on sets recently publicly called out actresses who deliberately prank their male co-stars in such scenes and act as if that is acceptable as women are from a marginalised group. The coordinator said plainly that consent goes both ways.
