View Full Version : Is there something you use to do when you were younger, but don't do now?

This is an easy one for me. I use to play video games. I played Atari at the arcades, I had a Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis. That's what my free time consisted of, but since the late 90s and early 2000's I have lost interest in video games. I can't get into the groove anymore.

Also, I use to shoot hoops and work out in the afternoons, but with my work hours, I am too drained to do any of that when I get off.

Wet the bed.

I think that's normal for many of us. (Myself included. LOL)

LOL.

Play ding-dong-ditch. I miss those days when us "neighborhood bad kids" spent our Friday and Saturday evenings running down our block and picking houses at random as the "target".

It was literally a ritual every weekend for ding-dong-ditch night for us.

Now it will be pretty sad for a 23 year old to still be doing this but I do miss those days.

and btw, my interest in video games never went away.

I done the Ding-Dong-Ditch thing, but not as much. It's funny, I have a 25 year-old nephew, and he's never heard of Ding-Dong-Ditch, but then again, he grew up doing very different things than I did.

When my mom had a wooden garage door, I used to throw the tennis ball against it and play catch like I am playing baseball. That was my favorite!!

Now that she has a metal garage door, I can't.

I used to have a strong interest in Star Wars related stuff and comic books. I still like comic books but whenever I buy them now they are usually for other people. Now I have zero interest in anything having to do with Star Wars, especially the movies.

I used to be able to dance, like 4 times a week, cannot do that anymore. I would, literally, start Thursdays by going out to go dancing, and then dance on the weekend and Sunday, too. What happened to my energy?

I did that too! When I was in college there was a really small dance club about 7 minutes from my dorm. On Friday and Saturday nights, I would meet my friends over there and we'd literally dance until about 4am. I was under 21 at the time, so I wasn't allowed in until midnight. I used to dance like crazy, and then when I got back to my dorm, I was so energized, I couldn't stop. I can't believe I'm confessing this, but I would go into the bathroom with my Walkman and Madonna "You Can Dance" tape and literally wear myself out. The only reason I went into the bathroom (I know you are wondering!) is because I didn't want to disturb my roommate!

Now, I'm lucky if I can dance for more than five minutes without gasping for air! That's terrible, isn't it? :jig:

In a word, age. It's just one of those things, Tara. I know you're fit and toned, and look 10 years younger, but age still slows you down.

I also used to swim when I was younger (I took lessons until I was about 9 or 10) but I haven't swum for a few years.

I used to ride bikes when I was a kid, but again, I haven't been on a bike for about four or five years.

As a teenager I used to be into shopping for clothes and stuff. I have cut back on clothes shopping. I tend to waste my money on CD's, DVD and video games. I used party a lot more during my high school and college years. I have sort of calmed down a bit. I only go out to clubs maybe once or twice a month.

You sound like me, because, I went go out to these bars or clubs, dance from 9PM till closing time (around 1:30 AM) and STILL had enough energy to go home and dance alone in my room, listening to my CDs. And, I was older than 21!!! I was able to do this till I was in my early to mid-30's; now that I am approaching 40, I am perfectly content to go to one of my regular haunts and just sit there with a glass of wine...

Well, there are times when I feel like I am a hundred years old; and, of course, while I am working out, I feel like I am still 18. It matters on my day, I guess...

Writing in my spare time is something else that has fallen by the wayside in the last few years. I've just completed a BA English and Writing degree so of course I had to write creative works for the Writing part, but I've really laid off writing in my spare time. I really want to write more often. When I was 13, 14, 15 years old I was spending HOURS every day writing.

When I was a kid I also read and collected comic books. Difference was that then they cost a dime. Almost cried when they went up to 15 cents.

Now I collect comic book scans on dvd. There are those who scan comics in the computer, maybe 200 comics on a dvd and by touching the space bar you turn the pages. Have in sequence the Superman's, Batman's, Captain Marvel's. Brings back many fond memories.
