Movie Reviews: Imagine That
12 June 2009 11:29 AM, PDT

Poor Eddie Murphy. Not only is just about every industry observer predicting that there is little commercial appeal for his latest movie, Imagine That, but several critics are dismissing it with the cruelest of cuts.

Remarks Claudia Puig in USA Today: “It's too bad there's little to distinguish this predictable tale from any other comedy about an overly busy father who finally connects with his child.”

In his review in the New York Post, Kyle Smith addresses the star: “Eddie Murphy, It’s too late to save yourself from the bottomless pit of lame into which you have cast yourself.”

Wesley Morris in the Boston Globe calls it another example of “family-movie mediocrity.”

On the other hand, Roger Moore in the Orlando Sentinel concludes that the film is “long on Cosby-like kid-friendly charm even if it falls short in the funny department.”

Joe Neumaier in the New York Daily News calls it “a happy surprise for the whole family.”

And Carrie Rickey in the Philadelphia Inquirer suggests that it might be the ideal movie for next weekend. “While Imagine That falls short of its feel-good aim, its feel-nice vibe is a good Father's Day diversion for Dads and their spawn,” she writes.

This movie looks kind of cute, but I'll wait till the DVD release. Rarely do I see a movie in the theatre anyway. I tend not to go by the critics reviews, but more by the Netflix viewers reviews.

I already posted a topic about i'm getting tired of Eddie Murphy's kids movies. He needs to get back to doing adult movies like he did back in the day that were funny. He must be doing these kids movies to pay for child support hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

The movies looks awful from the trailers and promos. I kind of seeing this being a big flop. I agree with isiahthomas Eddie Murphy needs to stop doing so many kids movies. But he probably has to pay child support to baby mama Scary Spice.

Yeah, this one looks like a stinker.

The only movie of his that I liked from recent years was Dreamgirls. I think the movie was great and Murphy was excellent as James "Thunder" Early.

The other movies that he has done recently, except for the Shrek movies, have been stinkers:
Meet Dave
Norbit
The Haunted Mansion
Daddy Day Care
I Spy (another Owen Wilson adaptation of a tv show)
The Adventures of Pluto Nash

LOL@those movies of his that you said are wack hahahahahahahahahahaha. I didn't like Dreamgirls either LOL. I saw it just because Beyonce was in it LOL. I will never see a movie again with a cute girl in it that i like just because she's in it LOL.

I liked him in Dreamgirls too. The last movie he made that I sort of liked was Bowfinger.

Yes i'm sure i'm not gonna see movies that look wack just because a cute actress is in it that i like. JamesG, you forgot to mention Eddie's other wack movies such as A Vampire In Brooklyn, Holy Man, Beverly Hills Cop 3, Best Defense, The Distinguished Gentleman LOL. Bowfinger sucked. I can't believe i saw that crap at the theatre LOL.

I loved the musical Dreamgirls but the only thing good about the movie was Jennifer Hudson. I was so mad that a lot of the really good songs ("Cadillac Car" for example) weren't even in the movie! That is probably the only song I remember from seeing the musical in NYC back in 1982 with my dad!

I don't even go by Netflix reviews. Nobody knows better than me whether I'll like a movie or not. 30 people on Netflix, Amazon, IMDB, etc saying a movie is good or bad won't sway my decision on seeing it because like critics it's just their opinion. Heck, some of my favorite movies are bashed by critics and viewers

IMO, Eddie's last good movie was Coming To America. I know Nutty Professor was one his popular outings in the last couple of decades, but I don't think it even remotely came close to holding a candle to the Jerry Lewis original.

Eddie's last good movie was Life with Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac, Anthony Anderson. Classic funny movie.
