The "Enchanted" director is attached to helm Warner Bros.' update of "The Incredible Mr. Limpet," a story about a man who turns into a talking fish.

Don Knotts starred in the studio's 1964 original, which centered on the title character, an otherwise bland sort who after his transformation becomes a World War II hero when he helps spot and thwart enemy warships for the Allies.

The picture was a live action-animated hybrid, with Arthur Lubin directing the live sections and Robert McKimson helming the animated parts.

The new project, which also will be a live-animated blend, has been through several iterations, with Robin Williams and Jim Carrey among the stars for whom it previously had been developed. Mike Judge was at one point attached to direct.

Akiva Goldsman, Bill Gerber, Paula Weinstein and James Lassiter are producing, with Chris Chase exec producing. Greg Silverman is overseeing for the studio.

The WME-repped Lima is attached to several Warners projects, including the period sorcery tale "The Spook's Apprentice" and the studio's update of Tom Thumb, titled "Thumb." He's also on board to direct Universal's big-screen version of "Candyland."

This project would be another in the latest round of live-animated hybrids that began when Fox turned "Alvin & the Chipmunks" into a hit in 2007.

Warners has several such projects in development, including a Yogi Bear update. Lima is considered one of the more respected practitioners of the form, with "Enchanted" and "Thumb" falling in the live-ani category.

I love this movie, but I hope they don't ruin it like they've done so many other movie remakes. I hope they keep it "cartoon-ish" like Bee Movie and not 3-D ish like other "cartoons" today.

As Catlover would say, enough with the remakes already!

Recasting Henry Limpet is like recasting Barney Fife. The late Don Knotts
is (and always will be) the "real" Henry Limpet.

I was only interested in a remake if Jim Carrey would have done it, but now, all we see is rehash after rehash, remake after remake, sequel after sequel, ripoff after ripoff.

I predict this will have roughly the lifespan of an average shad fly...

I agree; let's STOP these remakes and actually attempt to write something original. How long before they're making remakes of REMAKES...??

I don't know if happened for any other movie but I know Night of the Living Dead was remade twice.

The first remake was in 1990.

The second remake was Night of the Living Dead 3D in 2006.

I actually think they're remaking Carpenter's "The Thing" which is of course, itself a remake...

The one thing I hate about the movie industry the most is...

Direct-to-video sequels

That's next.

What will be next is remakes of classics such as "Gone With the Wind", "Citizen Kane", "Casablanca", and "The Godfather" to name a few!

It just makes me think of that South Park episode "Free Hat".

I made a similar story..."Free Beer".

Tired of seeing nothing but Remakes, Sequels, and TV Shows to Movie Movies, we see our hero making a petition to have Hollywood stop doing this. There would be free beer at the convention, but since our hero's brother and his friends drank all the beer, he had to tell them that there's no beer....But some people thought he was talking about this Charles Manson/Jim Jones-ish murderer. So our hero goes to Hollywood with a script of an original film "The Swedish Comedy", a play that he made. But Hollywood rejects it and he sees that Hollywood is just people who throw DVD's to the wall and shoot them with darts. The one that doesn't get damaged is the movie they'll remake. Our hero ask "Why don't you make something new"? They say it's just a waste of time. Then our hero says "You might as well remake 'Gone With the Wind'"....So they do. They get Martin Scorcese and Stephen Speilberg as the Directors, Leonardo DiCaprio as Rhett, Kate Winslet as Scarlett, Martin Lawrence as Big Momma, Morgan Freeman as Pork, Minnie Driver as Scarlett's sister, and Matt Damon is in the film too (All he says is 'Matt Damon', but Ron Howard, who produces the movie makes the editing). Our hero stops the movie to be made, but it's too late...the movie has its gala primere and Our Hero decides not to even look at the film. And our hero is the only one alive, and Morgan Freeman survived as well.

The only way to really stop remakes, is to stop buying tickets to them.

Yeah, I feel like everything they make now are remakes. They're obviously not hiring the right writers because these ones are useless.
