I have never really been able to get into Grey's Anatomy. Some episodes are interesting and fun to watch but others aren't. My friends kept lending me DVDs. But I like watching Supernatural on Thursdays.

A lot of these shows I don't like and I agree with pretty much all of them. However, from my own standpoint, I was listing shows that I want to like, but just can't. Friends would be at the top of the list, but another one would be Mad About You. I am all about romance, so you'd think I would love this show, but I just don't like it, no matter how many times I watch it.

I watched King of Queens twice and I swear both times the theme of the show had to do with something sex-related. After that, I decided not to bother with it. Just a really unfunny show.

... another one would be Mad About You.

That reminds me! Back in the day when I was in college (either sophomore or junior year) when this show was starting I was talking to a friend, and he said that he was happy to have found "MAY." I could not understand, but then again I had never heard of the show before. (Then again, I was still hooked on the likes of "Perfect Strangers" and "The Wonder Years". Heck, I still am today and probably will be the day I die! But I digress!) In subsequent calls to him I used to refer to it as "the show about the university." To me it sounded like "Mad About U" or even "Madabout U", the same way people say "Miami U" or "Ohio State U" when they want to abbreviate "University". LOL!

I always enjoyed all the classic comedies but the ones today..............well I'll be kind and just say I can't get into any of them.

The ones I really enjoyed are from the 50's-80's and a few from the 90's.

I think it's sad the direction TV moved into. :(
I guess real family friendly shows are a thing of the past. :(

I think there are a lot of shows out there perfect for families to watch together. Examples include Modern Family, Last Man Standing, The Middle, numerous others.

I'm sure that they just look and sound different from what most would consider a "family show".

Um there are a lot of "family friendly" shows on TV. Modern Family? Last Man Standing, numerous other shows. I think some people just have a very rigid definition of what they consider "family friendly".

It amazes me how some can be so mean to others with words. I have never done that to anyone here, just expressed my opinion about TV shows. Thanks for the kind words. I only come here because I enjoy reading what others say and once in a while (not often) I attempt to join in with my feelings on shows. This is not the 1st time this has happened and I'm sure it wouldn't be the last but I know from my illness that life is far too short and I won't waste it getting my feelings hurt here again.
I pray you have a wonderful blessed day.

I have not even tried to get into most shows made within the last 20 years or so because I know they are so inferior in quality to the older shows. However I did give Seinfeld a chance, and found it to be not only over-rated and boring, but downright stupid.

Uh, you have no idea how the shows are if you haven't even given them a chance.

LUNCH
04-12-2012, 01:16 PM
I've glanced at a number of them, even watched a few episodes of more modern shows,so I did give a few of them a chance. It would be great if they still did make good shows, but in my opinion for the most part they do not.To be fair though,I've enjoyed a couple of the more modern Britcoms made in the UK that I've seen on stations like PBS and so on,but even those are not nearly as good as the classic British comedies.

EmoJoe
04-12-2012, 03:47 PM
"Glancing" hardly counts as giving them a chance. There's plenty of shows out there today just as good as the best shows of the "classic" era. I know people here love saying TV has gone downhill but as far as I am concerned that's all nonsense. Every era has its good shows and bad shows, and there's a lot of shows on now I'd rank as some of the greatest of all-time.

I do want to apologize. I didn't mean to come across as harsh or rude, nor did I mean to be judgmental. However, after rereading my response, I can see how It would come across as unkind.

I truly didn't mean to be rude. I apologize for what I said, and will rephrase that.

my meaning was simply that there are a lot of shows out there that are perfectly fine for the whole family to watch, they simply look and sound different than the shows we typically think of as "family friendly". Family shows have come a long way since the 70's, 80's and 90's. Again, I am so sorry, I did not mean to be rude.

The only show on The Disney Channel that I watch is Good Luck Charlie. It has the feel of an old fashion family sitcom. The rest aren't really geared toward adults.

The one current sitcom that I really can't get into is The Office. I just don't find it funny. I'm also starting to lose interest in New Girl. It has an appealing cast but the show just doesn't make me laugh. Friends , I could never get into. I even watched it in primetime for a full year before I gave up on it.

Glee. I honestly don't see the appeal of this show. Maybe it's because I'm not a musical fan to begin with. It just looks like an attempt to do a "very special episode" every week complete with singing.

However, I did get a copy of the Glee Christmas CD as a gift and it actually wasn't that bad. Maybe they should be heard and not seen.

I forgot I had even made this thread but I want to add Pscyh to the list. I tried really hard to get into that show but just can't. As for "Cheers", I've started liking it more and more and that's probably because I'm such a Frasier fanatic now.

A lot of new school sitcoms. I never really cared for the single camera format and the oddness that comes with it. It always seems like the actors are trying way too hard to be quirky and funny instead of letting it flow naturally.

One reason for not getting into any "mega-hit" tv shows is because if a person doesn't get into a megahit TV show, but a friend of that person does, then the person may get alienated or picked on for avoiding that megahit TV show.

Also, I am not able to get into any megahit show until it is past its prime. For example, i never watched the original CSI: Crime Scene Invesigation when it was attracting over 26 million viewers per week at its peak. When USA Network acquired reruns of CSI after already telecasting NCIS reruns, I decided to start watching its originals on CBS midway through its 12th season, after Ted Danson joined its main cast. I continued watching its original episodes until its end in 2015, and today I still manage to catch a re-run of the original CSI on Mondays. I never bothered to get into either of CSI: Miami or CSI: New York, though. I have, however, gotten into NCIS at the start of its 9th season after watching the countless reruns on USA Network, and The Big Bang Theory at the start of its 6th season the following year.

Here is a list of shows I wasn't willing to get into, either because I didn't want to bother with it, or I'm not going to like it too much:
Friends
American Idol
The Simpsons (didn't help that I was born just before its fifth season)
Desperate Housewives
Grey's Anatomy
Empire (2015)
Survivor
Dancing With the Stars
The U.S. Version of The Office
Modern Family
Two and a Half Men
Any single-camera comedy
Any reality show (competition, documentary-style, or otherwise)

Now it's The Walking Dead. I'm a horror fan but not when it comes to the zombie genre. I did check out the pilot, but I don't see how a series of people fighting zombies every week would be interesting. I know there's a lot of character development but zombies are not my thing.
