I noticed quite a few people besides myself picked season nine as their least favorite. I think season nine is a huge disappointment, especially considering how great season eight is. I think season eight is the show's second best season. Nine though is such a let down. There are only a handful of really good episodes like "Less Than Perfect", "Rumor Has It", "Down and Out In Malibu", "Up From Down Under" and "Let's Face the Music". I happen to like Pippa though. I think she made a good friend for Andy. She gave Andy someone his own age to hang out with.

^ That was pretty much all Pippa was good for . To be friends with Andy. Other than that, she was pretty much random and forgettable. If I remember right, for the majority of her time on the show she wasn't even rooming with the other girls; she slept on the couch . If that doesn't say how she stuck out like a sore thumb I don't know what is.

I'm glad to see someone else likes season eight. I think it is one of the funniest seasons of FOL. A lot of people don't like it because of Beverly Ann, but I never minded Bev and thought she could be pretty funny at times. She wasn't the mother-figure we were used to with Mrs. Garrett, but Cloris Leachman is a great actress in my opinion and I enjoyed her as Beverly Ann. Plus, with Mrs. G off following her own dreams, this was the first year we got to see the girls really on their own (other than some season 7 eps when Mrs. G is off visiting her sister.) I liked seeing the girls solve their own problems and really grow up.

I agree season 9 was not very good. I picked 1 as my least favorite because I don't even see it as the same show until Jo came on the scene, but 9 would be my second choice for least favorite. I LOVE "Down and Out in Malibu!" In fact I almost picked it as my favorite episode but then changed my mind. Maybe I should change it back though because that episode was really great. I loved how it showed how much Jo really meant to Blair, that Blair would go all the way to California to help her when she was in trouble, and how Jo was so ashamed of not making it on her own that she put on the big front pretending like she was leading this fabulous life. I also loved how when everything fell apart and the truth came out all the girls pitched in together to try to help (and failed.) You can't beat Richard Moll as the guest star for this episode. He was great! And of course when Jo shows up at home in Peekskill it's the perfect ending because the thought of being away from her friends was too much for her and too much for us as viewers. It's too bad season 9 got off to such a great start and ended so badly. I agree that season 9 was a huge disappointment.

Okay...enough of my rambling!

Okay...guess I'm not done rambling.

I agree about Pippa. Her character was pointless. I really thought she was brought in to give some connection to Eastland since that was the original basis for the show. I thought it was odd that they would have this strange girl sleeping on their couch and going to school and just becoming one of the "family." She never really fit in, although I do agree she gave Andy someone his age to connect to and without her I'm not sure they would have had much use for Andy either. I liked him though...I had a huge crush on him when I was eleven! :)

Too true, Nats#1Fan, too true. I never saw the point of Pippa. Maybe her function was to be sort of a sister-figure to Andy, but that was really pointless because Andy fit in with the rest of the Facts family just fine. But Pippa? There was just no substance to her, no personality. You're right when you say that basically, all she did was sleep on the couch and make the occasional witty Aussie remark. Other than that, she was COMPLETELY "random and forgettable."

If this thing was really on 9 years, wow the number of bad episodes must be staggering. They had a horrible one in I believe it was the second season where a girl commits suicide. Wasn't this supposed to be a children's sitcom? Nothing funny there, people.

^ I think FOL's target audience was teenagers but I agree that a lot of kids watched it (myself included; I was in 5th grade when I started watching it on N@N). I didn't like that episode much because I'm not fond of sad episodes but I found it very well-written and really accurate about the topic of suicide. It was also tastefully done, imo.

I also think that because lots of kids watched N@N and this show when it was on there, the powers that be over there chose not to air this one for that reason. That's probably why the Dope episode and other various ones weren't on there too. The first time I even watched Breaking Point (the suicide episode) was when I used to get those FOL videos from Columbia House and it was on there. After watching it, I was kind of glad it hadn't been on N@N; I could see it being confusing to younger kids (not so much teens/preteens but younger kids). It was chilling for me to watch it on that video; I'm sure other kids watching it would've felt the same way, hence the decision to not air it. But this is just my theory on it of course :) .

Favorite character (1st season): Natalie because she seemed so real and easy to relate to.

Favorite character (Overall): Jo because she challenged Blair and was even more easy relate to since her family had no well-to-do ties (Blair's family was obviously rich, Tootie's parents were lawyers, and Natalie's dad was a doctor and her mother a nurse. All of these are associated with the higher classes).

Favorite adult character: Mrs. Garrett because she was the glue to hold it all together.

Favorite character (of the lost girls): This is hard because I like all of them, but there was something about Sue Ann that I liked (probably just because she is from the Midwest and she does slug Blair); however, in The Big Chill she was annoying trying to pull the wool over the girls' eyes.

Least favorite character: Boots St. Clair (whamo -- enough said)

Least favorite guest character: I did not like Harrison Andrews because he not only hurt Blair emotionally and tried to assault Jo, but his values about women were completely -- oh, I can't even find the words.

Least favorite main character: Okay this is hard just because I do like the four main girls, but it would be between Blair and Tootie. Blair just because she still lacked a filter and had to get her digs in even when she was being nice and Tootie just in the episodes when she overacted a bit or whined because whining is not flattering.

Least favorite lost girl: Again, this is hard, but I would say Nancy just because I cringed every time she started talking about Roger.

Favorite episode: There is soooooooo many that it is hard to choose, but Four Musketeers was a winner because, not only was it funny, it is the episode where the girls realize they are best as a package deal.

Favorite episode with the focus more on one girl: Double Standard because this is the episode where the audience really sees Jo's tender and vulnerable side as well as Blair's caring and defensive side. In a nutshell, this was the first real obvious indication of the friendship between Blair and Jo.

Favorite 1st season episode: Again, this is a toss-up, but I think I like Running just because Blair gets decked, albeit by accident.

Least favorite episode: Brian and Sylvia. I like the subject matter of looking at an interracial relationship, but they ultimately get divorced and the episode just doesn't run well I feel. I think they still could have addressed the question of interracial coupling with Crossing the Line when Natalie went out with Tootie's cousin, Michael.

Least favorite 1st season episode: Overachieving because Tootie's dad had the gall to think that Mrs. Garrett had a bad influence on his daughter and was going to yank her out of Eastland. I don't think I could imagine Facts of Life without Tootie. Thank goodness for no Toot-Toot-Tootie goodbye.

Favorite season: Really hard question so let's just say 2-8.

Least favorite season: To be fair let's just say season 1 because, although the girls were good and the stories not horrible, the development of the stories were a bit lost and you really could not relate with any one girl. Then again, beginnings are always hard. Let's also include season 9 just because it was the last season. I heart The Facts of Life and whatever season was its last is obviously my least favorite.

Favorite Episode: The ones centered around Tootie's family and the ones centered around Jo's family.
Least Favorite Episode: The ones centered around Blair's mom and baby sister.

Favorite Season: Season 2-6
Least Favorite Season: Season 1. Tootie stood out from that season, most of those other girls were so vanilla and boring. There's a reason why she stayed and the rest didn't. Natalie was a close second in that season. I can't stand Blair but she was also a stand out because at least she was funny (IMO).

But season 9 had no Mrs. Garrett. And you love Mrs. Garrett. You can't stand seeing someone else besides Mrs. Garrett. I can't believe you're weighing a last-minute glimpse at a new Eastland over 52 episodes of Mrs. Garrett. Plus, we see the real Eastland (instead of the new fake co-ed one) in the beginning of season 5, since you love seeing Eastland.

You haven't slammed the EE years nearly as much as you have been the OOH years in cfr's reviews, so frankly I'm surprised you're still going by that ranking. It feels like you really rank seasons 7, 8, and 9 the lowest.

But no Eastland itself. I do adore those three wonderful episodes, but can three fleeting episodes at the beginning of the season make up for a season with Beverage Cann and Beverage CAndy? Can three episodes make up for a season of Coca-Cola writing the scripts? Can three episodes make up for the horrors of "The Ratings Game" (Jo hacks a database!), "Fast Food" (Blair gets a job at a fast food restaurant), "Write and Wrong" (CAndy has a grandma and parents!), "Boy About the House (CAndy has no grandma and has only foster parents!), "Seven Little Indians" (Enough said), "62 Pickup", and "This is Only a Test"? Can three episodes make up for the loss of Mrs. Garrett and her "replacement" by someone claiming to be from the same hometown, taking over her place in the credits and even her hallowed bedroom? No. No it cannot. Not IMO. :(

1. They actually use the old exterior establishing shot of the beloved dorm. That's a plus. ✅

(https://emojipedia.org/check-mark-button/)2. I don't mind boys; they're just guest actors.
3. Yeah, Beverage Can and Beverage CAndy are in it. True. But they're in S9, too. So that's a draw.

It's obvious a lot of this started after I called Sue Ann a loser and then cfr used that term. Never before I said that has Beverly Ann been referred to as Beverage Can. I didn't know my opinion would have such a reaction from someone  I find it funny because in all reality no matter how much someone hates Beverly Ann nowadays, back then when the show was still new there were millions of viewers who still watched the show regardless of her presence. They had more viewers in seasons 8 and 9 than season 1. That's why NBC wanted the show back for a season 10. This is more than you can say about season 1 no matter how hard someone tries to change the facts. I feel sorry for season 1 fans. The show wasn't cutting it. I've had shows like that and in the end, I just move on than stick around bashing the show for the success it was. I hate Charmed after Shannen was fired, but I don't go to fan boards and start bashing the show like a particular season 1 fan of Facts does here because he didn't get his way.

Well I figured from my reviews everyone knows my picks lol. But i'll throw up mine since you so nicely requested!:wave:

Favorite Character: Tootie and for a couple of reasons. One: She never became a POD throughout the entire series and she stayed consistent. Two: She's always the one wanting everyone to get along and not fight and wishes they could all live together forever and I really love that.

Least Favorite Character: URCHIN ANDY. What he did to Natalie was unforgivable and destroyed his character in my eyes. Before that, it would've been Kelly, but at least when she stabs you it's in front of your face and not behind your back!

Favorite Episode: TIE "New York, New York" and "The Four Musketeers"

Least Favorite Episode: Seven Little Indians----I just can't....puke::barf:

Favorite Season: 5

Least Favorite Season: 9 (so far...but I haven't seen season 1 in full yet so that could replace it because i'm enjoying some season 9 episodes and I may find I like that more than 1. Lost Girls fans be damned.:wave:)

I'm no fan of the Urchin, so I get it. My reasons are different, but I still get it.

Favorite Episode: TIE "New York, New York" and "The Four Musketeers"

I can see why. Those are some strong episodes. With a few minor tweaks, TFM might have been my favorite episode of all time. It's just missing four small cameos to have made it perfection (I know, I know, gum would be perfection ;) ). NYNY is great.

Least Favorite Episode: Seven Little Indians----I just can't....puke::barf:

Yeah. Definitely not a good one, IMO, too.

Least Favorite Season: 9 (so far...but I haven't seen season 1 in full yet so that could replace it because i'm enjoying some season 9 episodes and I may find I like that more than 1. Lost Girls fans be damned.:wave:)

Don't worry: you could hate S1 with a fiery passion, and even then, we'd have plenty of things to talk about, because that first season is such a rich tapestry of characters and morals, and odd lines and weirdly prolific props. But who could hate a Norman Lear production?

Bro let it go, Retro and you dont get along no need to keep egging it on. He's not an exclusive season 1 fan, heck I'm more a season 1 only fan than anyone else probably.

I understand you and Retro are online friends, but please be fair when taking sides. I didn't say anything to egg Retro on in my post. It is tiring though seeing essay posts from Retro on his dislike of the show post Eastland. This is why I don't participate in cfr's thread anymore. It got ridiculous seeing cfr talk about characters he likes or the episodes and then this long ass post in reply to cfr about how much the show sucks in the later years. It's fine if you don't like something but why continuously knock something down someone else enjoys post after post? I don't follow you guys around knocking season 1 every day in the threads you post in. It's a 40 year old show. It is what it is.

Thanks, I figured my reviews would make answering redundant, but it's still fun to answer anyway.

Awww, what cool reasons to love Tootie! :):):):)

First it was Blair, then Natalie was inching up, but now that i'm almost through with the series, Tootie has raced ahead of the pack mainly because her character stayed consistent from start to finish and was the only one able to fend off the POD. In fact, I can't think of anytime she even came close to being POD Tootie. That's quite an achievement when all the rest succumbed to those nasty PODS.

I'm no fan of the Urchin, so I get it. My reasons are different, but I still get it.

Had he given Natalie back her money, I would've forgiven him--but he's forever dead now. :smash:

But i'm going in with a completely open mind I promise lol. I really have no opinion of that season except for Flash Flood and I liked that. It's not going to leap to my favorite season, but it may not become my most hated either.

To be honest, I have had "friends" in my life who lied to me because they care more about themselves or what others think than be honest. I don't like people like that. I think it's mean of Sue Ann to care what her friends think of her than being honest. Being a gofer is not a bad thing at all. A job is a job. She should be selling it up that she's even working in a big corporation than lying about what she does and making her friends feel less. It's mean. That's not a very good episode for Sue Ann fans. In season 1 she just has facial expressions that are hard for me to get through at times

And I thought you were just sick of my reviews. I'm glad to see that's not why and completely understand.:wave:

I enjoy reading your reviews. The one I liked debating with you on was This Is Only A Test. I see your side on Blair's behavior, but I still don't see the big difference than what she did for Jo in Ain't Miss Beholden. She uses her wealth to get what she wants. I'll rewatch the two back to back one of these days and see if I pick up on what you're seeing :)

Well, you could just read mainly cfr's posts if you want since that's what drew you there.

It depends on the lie, lots of people exaggerate at HS reunions to feel better. Sue Ann and the other 3 weren't super close anymore like the core four, they lived in the dorm maybe 2 years together (including the backdoor pilot) while the core four lived together for 8. Its more about looking better to old classmates than lying to her lifelong BFFs.

Now that would have been nice to see, have Sue Ann proud of getting on with a big company. Then she could tell her friends that she's on a plan to become a higher-up (kind of like she does to Jo in private). She comes off as so unlikeable in her lying because we haven't seen her the way we know her in 7 years.

And I have to watch "Ain't Miss Beholden" myself to understand the other side of that debate as I don't remember it much since it was before I started watching and doing my reviews. But I THINK that's where she uses her wealth to help Jo so it's a selfless act rather than using her wealth for her own personal gain. I don't think it's hypocritical to think there's a difference, but i'll have to give AMB a watch again.

I own the individual season sets that were released in the beginning. Double sided discs are evil. I can't stand them. To answer your question, I've had zero issues with them. If you find the individual seasons on ebay, go for them. You might have better luck with them.

Since TV sucks nowadays and Supernatural had to end damnit  (15 years goes by so fast :crybaby: ), I plan to create my own playlists of shows each night this fall. Thanks, I found a listing on ebay for used in very good condition for $13.95/free shipping total for seasons 1, 2 & 5 and I snagged it!! That's just $4.65 a season!!

I see that the single seasons are double sided as well but the listing states they pay perfect and it has free 30 day returns if there's any issues.

The later seasons are the ones I remember most from my first viewing of the show. I'm excited to see it from beginning to end. And then The Jeffersons! I've already got the first season of that show copied. 10 more seasons to go

Since TV sucks nowadays and Supernatural had to end damnit  (15 years goes by so fast :crybaby: ), I plan to create my own playlists of shows each night this fall. All in The Family, The Jeffersons, The Facts of Life, Maude, even Mama's Family will be some of the shows I have in my watching rotation.

That's a nice playlist for evening viewing. I need to get Mama's Family and also The Jeffersons since I got a bad bootleg of that one and it's unwatchable. :(

BTW Archie DIDN'T cheat on Edith. He just kissed that waitress who was all over him, but I guess you can technically consider that cheating though. It's a great 3 parter which i'm actually just a few episodes away from in my viewing.

That's just 0.2113636363636364 cents per episode!! Less than .03 cents apiece! WOW you're getting your $'s worth!! :D  :woohoo:

What, no love for season 4??

I don't know why I completely forgot season 4. It's past bedtime and the mind is already asleep I guess.

So now I need 3 more seasons instead of 2...it doesn't seem like such a bargain now unless I can get those 3 for the same price. :happyface

EDIT: It's actually seasons 1, 2 & 4 I got for $13.95. (My mind is definitely fast asleep LOL)

So it's seasons 3, 5 and 6 I need now.

Ah, thanks for explaining. I haven't seen a lot of the show as an adult, but yeah, that didn't sound like Archie.

Just got season 3 for $5.75/free ship! That's .26 cents an episode.

BTW '80's it's .21 cents per episode for the 3 seasons I got not 2 cents! That would definitely have been a steal though!

EDIT: Ok now it's back down to 21 cents per episode with season 3.

For seasons 1-4 I paid total $19.70 and there's 92 episodes in those first 4 seasons so that makes it .21 cents per episode which is pretty great!!

Now I only need seasons 5 & 6---and more importantly sleep before I go crazy online shopping half asleep!

What?? But I took $4.65 per season and divided that by 22 episodes, and that was less than .03 cents per episode! What dd you do??

But congrats on getting 'em! lol

3 cents per episode X 22 episodes = 66 cents total!

21 cents per episode X 22 episodes = $4.62

So it's a teeny bit over .21 cents per episode.

Lorimar do you have the Reba show on dvd? I'm looking at Amazon reviews for the Complete Series set and some are saying the dvd's are double sided and skip. Yikes! And these are brand new copies, so i'm nervous about buying them. If you have the dvd's, how do they play for you?

Yes I have them! I have no issues with skipping on my sets. Also If you get UP TV it has episodes on weeknights from 7- usually 9 or 10. It just restarted on S1 tonight.

I always thought it was weird to call the show Reba. Did you notice it was hardly ever about her? It was mainly the Van, Cheyenne, Brock, and BJ show. Reba was a supporting character in their drama. It's still a good show but I would have liked to have seen more of Reba's character since it was called Reba :)

I disagree it was all about Reba's life and she's presented as the most sane of the chars. I would say she always gets the most screen time in the eps. I cant think of an ep where she wasn't apart of the action unlike Mrs G on FOL.

Never heard of UP TV and just checked it's website. They're unfortunately not an over the air broadcast channel here in Orlando, but the only show they have that I don't get on other channels is Reba and I have the dvd's coming now.

It's been 10 years since I watched it in syndication so it'll be fun to see it again and unedited too. :)

I agree she's presented the sanest but each season she's dealing with either Van and Cheyenne or Brock and BJ. It's not a bad thing. It shows Reba didn't care about having the spotlight on her. I feel that's why Reba was a success. Bette Midler could have used this lesson when she tried her own sitcom 20 years ago. Even though Bette was a fun sitcom, it was a train wreck for the cast and crew.

I can't believe you picked TOOTIE??? (she's my LEAST favourite from the 'Core of 4' lol!):confused::confused:

PS: even though BLAIR became a POD later on, she'll be my favourite FOREVER!!!!:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Aw, that's sad to hear because I decided she's my most favorite. And if I go further and rank them all now that I almost finished the series, it goes like this:

1. Tootie
2. Natalie
3. Blair
4. Jo

Natalie is #2 because she really impressed me after season 5 and she came into her own and I loved who she became. The independant free spirit with the adventure for travel and proudly decided to do her own thing and work for 2 years and live in the world before going to college. To me, that's admirable and she should've told Sue Ann to suck it when she belittled her for it.

She sadly succumbed to the POD for the Write and Wrong episode and fell to #2.

I know you're gonna :bash::bash::bash: me for making Blair #3, but there were times her character became insufferable and just wanted to stick a cork in her. She became a POD the most and it was annoying at times.

And Jo goes last because she changed way too much towards the end to the point of being a totally different character who traded in her toolbox for cans of Aqua Net, high hair and club dresses.

I saw season 2 so I doubt it. In fact, I love the Tootie episodes from that season. That character stayed consistent from start to finish and that alone ranks her #1 for me.

And she's the peacemaker of the group...how can anyone rank that last? Right valentina? :bash::bash::bash:

I mean you'll be seeing it again, freshly, soon. So you may be fickle and change again; who knows?? (the question is, will you still love Tootie the most in seasons 3 and 4, where some fans find her "annoying").

If I can still love Tootie after the Jermaine Jackson episode, then there's really nothing short of bashing Mrs. G to death with a stale strudel that can make me not like her.

I think i'm safe from Tootie hate...and besides, she was never a POD and we all hate PODS don't we? She's the only one who survived the FOL POD invasion.

Ooh cfr1970 what a shame we don't agree!!!!:crysoup::crysoup::crysoup:

I see your point about PODS though, and that is the MAIN reason i chose to shut my eyes regarding the BLAIR character from the later seasons and AVOID watching them as well: it became UNBEARABLE to watch BLAIR change so much (after seeing how much she had grown in the earlier seasons) and turn into the WORST PODS of all!!!!

So, i like to PRETEND, that the 'Interview show' from FOL was the very last episode: MRS G living with all her caring and lovable girls under the same roof, BLAIR still dating CLIFF, JO studying and doing all her extra activities, NAT still being the independent writer, and TOOTIE the peace maker!!!!:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

PS: in my own world, the later seasons never existed, the girls remained the same SANE people, JO never married RICK but somebody else a LOT more exiting and with a PERSONALITY, and BLAIR remains either with BEN/CLIFF and still my FAVOURITE of all!!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

The Interview Show is a good point to have ended the series. I do agree with you there. Then we'd never have had to endure inflatable penguins and the tacky neon of OOH, the Urchin doesn't make his appearance till towards the end of the season so he's not a bother, and best of all, Tic Head George would never have existed!!
