View Full Version : Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette in discussions for 'Scream' reboot
Brian Damage 06-02-2009, 10:56 PM If you needed proof that everything old in Hollywood is becoming new again, look no further than Scream. The mid-'90s franchise that sent-up slightly older horror flicks is being remade into a whole new set of movies, starting this fall. Writer-director Kevin Williamson has been working on a trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies.
And EW has learned exclusively that Williamson has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return. Deals have yet to be signed, however, as all involved try to hammer out potential scheduling conflicts that could arise now that Courteney Cox Arquette's pilot Cougar Town was picked up by ABC. (Agents for the actors have yet to return EW's request for comment.) No word on whether Neve Campbell's character, among others, will make the cut.

JamesG 06-02-2009, 11:05 PM Why the need for this? Why reboot something that is a little more than 10 years old?
SCREAM 3 was a good ending; the franchise is over as a far as I am concerned (though as I say this I will probably be seeing the latest installment that should arrive).
So they plan on rebooting SCREAM with the original people in the movie? If anything they should make another sequel. I don't like the sound of this but if they insist on making another one it should be a sequel and not a reboot.
I'll be tuning into BloodyDisgusting to see what they have to say about this.
Nighthawk76 06-03-2009, 12:17 AM Kevin Williamson hasn't been invloved in a hit film in nearly a decade. I think he is just trying to recapture some old glory.

I totally agree with you James. I love the Scream trilogy and reboot for it sounds stupid.
JamesG 07-14-2009, 10:59 PM The Arquettes Return for Scream 4, Craven Could Still Direct!

We broke the news earlier this year that offers went out to a trio of Scream stars to return for a fourth time.
E! Online breaks the news this afternoon that both David Arquette and Courteney Cox have officially signed on to return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers respectively in the Weinstein Company's Scream 4.
"We are going to be doing Scream 4," Arquette tells the site. "Kevin Williamson is writing the script at this moment, and hopefully Wes Craven is going to direct."
We had reported, and been told by Craven, that if the money/script was right, he'd return to helm the mega franchise that took the 90's by storm.
We're told that the film will be a younger version of the Scream films, although Neve Campbell threw a kink in the wheel by refusing to return as Sidney Prescott.

JamesG 07-15-2009, 01:33 PM David Arquette on Scream Return

It was confirmed yesterday that both David Arquette and Courteney Cox would be returning for Scream 4, which is currently being reworked by screenwriter Kevin Williamson after Neve Campbell threw a kink in the wheel by refusing to return as Sidney Prescott. Today, Arquette talked with the NY Post about the forthcoming new trilogy and why he decided to return. Read on for the skinny.
"I love the 'Scream' franchise, I'm just honestly excited to be making another one," Arquette exclaimed. "I figured it would be a blast to bring these characters back to life and see how they've grown since 'Scream 3,'" he told the NY Post. "Working with Wes has been amazing and Kevin is an incredible artist. My wife and I really wanted to do this."
While David and I agree on all those fronts -- exactly what has Dewey been doing? -- there is one place where we don't see eye to eye: He's still holding out hope for Neve's return. "I really hope Neve does it."

browneyes106 07-15-2009, 03:21 PM If Neve doesn't return they will probably find another way to do a fourth movie without the Sidney character.
Torgo 07-15-2009, 07:46 PM I really hope the new Scream movies are as brilliant as Cursed, because that was the greatest werewolf movie since An American Werewolf in Parispuke:
JamesG 08-04-2009, 06:05 PM Breaking News: KEVIN WILLIAMSON GIVES NEW DETAILS ON SCREAM SEQUEL -- IT WILL BE A TRILOGY
The trilogy will center around the characters played by Courteney Cox and David Arquette from the first three films

THE SKINNY: While promoting his new CW show THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and the Summer TCA press tour, if caught up with that show’s executive producer Kevin Williamson to find out more about the proposed SCREAM 4 that he’s working on.
“I’m writing it,” he says. “Honestly, [VAMPIRE DIARIES] is the focus, I want to get this show going. Luckily COUGAR TOWN [Courteney Cox’s new series] got picked up, so I bought myself a TV season, so I don’t have to deliver a script until hiatus.”
The impetus for SCREAM 4 came with constant bugging by Dimension Films’ Bob Weinstein.
“Bob Weinstein has been bugging me a hundred billion years,” says Williamson. “‘Let’s do it. Let’s do it.’ Wes and I were like ‘no way.’ Then finally I was taking some time off, sitting around thinking ‘what if I had to do SCREAM 4?’ I wasn’t interested, [but then I thought] ‘a trilogy – now I’d be interested! Could we do that and develop a trilogy?’ and then I started thinking about the story. I created three different chapters, broke it up and I got really excited.”
So what is about? Is it a remake? A sequel?
“It’s a new trilogy,” Williamson adds. “It’s ten years later. Gale Weathers [Cox], ten years later.”
Also back will be David Arquette who played Deputy Dewey in the first film and who struck up a relationship on screen and off with Cox.
“[It’s] Sheriff Dewey, I mean Deputy Dewey, oops,” says Williamson. “It’s Dewey and Gale and that’s it.”
With both Cox and Williamson working on TV shows, Williamson does reiterate, a script won’t be ready for awhile and the earliest shooting could commence would be next year.
“I’m going to finish the script in the next couple of months and then we’ll start the project,” says Williamson “It depends on the hiatus schedule and then we'll get in serious talks with [original trilogy director] Wes [Craven] and what his schedule is like. Then the VAMPIRE DIARIES -- I’m committed to this and I have another show at ABC that nobody knows about. That could come in and change everything.”
Of course, Williamson couldn’t see the movie done properly without Craven involved.
“Wes wants to read the script before we sign on, which makes sense,” he adds. “We’ve sort of chatted about it. We’re a SCREAM family, so not having dad sitting at the head of the table, wouldn’t make sense.”

The evolution of Dewey and Gale's relationship in the Scream franchise has been an interesting one. Can't say I agreed with where it went in the third chapter, but from the sounds of it, writer Kevin Williamson is taking things to the next level for the pair in Scream 4 and the "new trilogy" he's fashioning.
Courteney Cox recently revealed during a press conference that Gale Weathers "has a kid now" and is indeed married to Dewey, essayed again by David Arquette (her real life husband). And, as it has been revealed earlier, Dewey is a sheriff. "I heard the idea for Scream 4, and it's fantastic," the actress said.
The idea of a kid scares the hell out of me. Will it be an infant? Maybe, in that case, I'm not so worried. But, a mischievous ten-year-old? That could spell trouble.
Williamson is at work writing the script while overseeing the CW's The Vampire Diaries. If all goes according to plan, Scream 4 should start rolling cameras next year...that is, if the cast doesn't blow the entire story beforehand thus negating any need to see the film at all.
