On June 1, 1967 The Beatles released their landmark concept album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was a huge critical and commerical success and played a major role in record albums coming into their own as art forms. Something which has been lost with the growing popularity of ipods.

Its a good album, it made an impact at its time, but frankly I dont think its the Beatles best work. As much as I like Sgt. Pepper it did inspire too many imitation records by various bands and many of those were bad.

My God, 42 years? My brother was 16 at that time; and I was a wee 3, but the album still resonates today. I got into the Beatles big time in high school. Regardless of the imitators it spawned, the work was truly innovative and industry changing and really forced the rock genre to evolve.
Can anyone truly ever see another album/CD making this type of impact again?
