Let me preface this by saying I have nothing against hockey. I don't hate hockey. I don't have an issue with anyone who's a huge hockey fan. I even think this NHL playoff awards piece is very funny. However, I have to point out that the sport has hit a new low in terms of how it's being treated. Everyone thought things were bad when the NHL had to go to Versus. But the latest occurrence is much worse. The Stanley Cup Finals -- let me repeat, THE STANLEY CUP FINALS -- have been bumped from NBC during the upcoming week because the network doesn't want to tamper with this prime-time lineup. (Games 1 and 2 will air on NBC this Saturday and Sunday.) What does next week's prime-time lineup consist of? Five straight nights of I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! Granted, the show features Torrie Wilson, but is there any doubt it will be a huge flop? I'll watch pretty much anything, and even I wouldn't be caught dead watching this debacle...

Wow! Unbelievable! The NHL bends over backward to accommodate NBC's scheduling whims for the whole playoffs and then NBC does this? Totally unforgivable!!!

I'm not a huge hockey fan either but NBC is stupid for putting a dumb has been reality show on instead of the Stanley Cup.

Well in defense of NBC (yikes) they only have games 1, 2 and 6 & 7 if necessary. It's not like they are preempting hockey on purpose. Versus has all the middle games.

I absolutely HATE the NHL on NBC crew. Pierre McGwire is a dirty pierre & piece of sh*t, interviewing coaches on the fly & acting like an a$$hole all the time. I loved the NHL on ESPN/ESPN2 and really loved the NHL on ABC crew back in the day. The Versus crew sucks & the NBC crew is even worst. What does everybody think???They totally disrespect Philadelphia & I prefer and love the local Philly announcers- Jim Jackson, Keith Jones & Coatsey anyway, for the Flyers :).

Normally I would be upset about this since I am a hockey fan, but not this time.

I was really enjoying the playoffs in the earlier rounds, but I think the momentum is lost anyway.

I am so sick of the NHL media ramming Sidney Crosby down our throats. I actually find this funny.

As for TJL's comments that hockey doesn't bring in the ratings like other sports do - hockey is a regional sport, just like basketball & baseball. I'm pretty sure those 2 sports don't bring in very high ratings nationally either. Wasn't the World Series the lowest rated ever? Only football brings in high national ratings.

I moderate the Bewitched and Barney Miller boards, not the Sports board.

it can be frustrating when people bash the sports (or shows) that you love, but unless they are getting personal you should probably take it with a grain of salt - its just an opinion and that's all its worth.

Based on their last 25 or 30 games I think the Sens will have a much better season next year. I'm a Vancouver Canucks fan myself. By the way the Mods on S.O. do a great job. I doubt you'll find a friendlier message board anywhere on the net and its because of the great administrators and moderators we have here!

I agree NASCAR is boring...more boring than hockey but you're kidding yourself if you don't believe it's more popular in the United States. I lived down south and that's all anyone would talk about.They have radio networks set up and everything. It's everywhere. Outside of a few cities, the NHL just has never had much of a large following.
