Schmoopie 07-07-2012, 05:55 AM I replied to this a while back but just had to comment again. I think it's wonderful that David and Brian were able to get married and it's a shame that they had to wait so long. I love that DHP speaks out on issues that he believes in and I'm sure it was hard for him to not talk about his relationship to the media. I saw that episode of The View on Youtube and he's right; it's not really anyone's business what they think of his personal life. I know a lot about his career and so forth but finding things about his personal life (like his favorite movies and so forth) is really hard. He seems to be a very private person which I admire him for but I do like to know what celebrities like in the way of movies and 'everyday' things. It makes me feel more connected to them in a way. I mean, how cool would that be to have something in common with David Hyde Pierce?

The thing that I always felt bad about is the fact that he and Brian were never able to publicly go anywhere together. I mean, I guess they could have, but not without making a big spectacle. It's a little bit better now, but for the longest time (for most of those 25 years) he pretty much presented himself at major events alone, and while everyone else had pictures taken with significant others, he had pictures taken alone. And I know that he could have come out sooner but that would have had major impacts on his life and career at that time. It just seems like not a very fair situation, but I guess that's one of those prices you pay for being in the public eye.

Yeah that's a shame. He's even said in interviews that they weren't trying to hide anything. One of my coworkers and I were talking about Frasier a while back and he said that it would have been awful for DHP's career, since he was still doing Frasier at the time. That must have been a different time in our society, but look at Neil Patrick Harris and Jim Parsons. They are still on their respective shows and they've publicly come out. It doesn't seem to have hurt their careers at all. But that would have been awful had David's relationship with Brian to be revealed 'too early' and have him face ridicule and shame about his personal life.
andress_jade 07-08-2012, 04:51 PM Actually I have known about this for quite some time. This is quite a sensitive subject for me as I am torn about whether or not gay marriage is right or wrong. I try not to talk about it as not to offend anyone or come off as homophobic.
What DHP does in his private life is nobody's business but his own. I admire him as a person and as an actor and I'm glad he chooses to keep his private life private. This bit of information doesn't change how I feel about him personally or professionally.
I am proud of him for standing up what he believes in, which makes me admire him even more. :)
I also think he is an amazing actor for being so believeable in his characters love for Daphne, that is the mark of a true professional. Thank you, David. :D
