Great news!!

(although i already have the entire series :D)

I wonder if this set will include the never syndicated pilot episode? It's a hoot to see how Patty and Cathy first meet (and wearing that awful brown wig!)

A friend of mine has been waiting forever for PDS to come out on DVD. I'll have to leave him a message with the good news! :D

About f**king time.

This is good news. Only drawback is that its 6 DVD's and it could be pricey. Now I gotta come up with a way to get some extra funds to buy all the classic TV show I want on DVD.

Mick, The only way I'm getting all my faves is through saving up Amazon gc's, which I get through doing surveys and loyalty programs like Memolink and Mypoints. Otherwise, I would be seeing nothing. Or at least being very very selective of what I did buy.

How can I get in on those Gift Cards?

You have to join those programs and also get into the survey companies that pay for your time. It won't be overnight and it requires you to actually spend time answering surveys and/or clicking links, shopping through the loyalty programs and such.

I don't want this thread going this off topic, so further questions or such, send a PM :)

I'm excited for Patty Duke! I've never watched it on a regular basis, so it should be fun to watch straight through. I was not aware of a never syndacated pilot. I sure hope its part of the package, along with other extras!

The pilot was included with the DVDs Lee G did for me. so that was a surprise!

The press release states several times that 26 episodes are included. Season 1 had 36 episodes. I wonder if that's a typo or some are omitted for music clearance. There was a lot of 60s pop music used in this series. Then again, if there were only 26 episodes included, they wouldn't need 6 discs, so it's probably an error and will be corrected.

Let's hope that season one will be in its entirety. The DVD cover art says "the complete first season" so I hope they know that means 36 episodes!

The typo has been fixed. We get all 36 episodes from Season One. :woohoo:

That's a relief! I was getting a little worried there, though it did make sense it was probably a typo. I hope they don't have trouble with music clearances, my next concern.

It seems to take forever for companies to clear UNITED ARTISTS shows for release. I wonder why? Ah, but finally PDS. Hope they include the pilot with the VERY different cast.

Is the first episode the rarely seen pilot. It doesn't say anything about the never syndicated pilot, and it would be very disappointing if its not included!

Brace yourself for some bad news: According to an official post on Shout Factory's message board, the unaired pilot is not included with the first season DVD set. :(

Let's keep our fingers crossed for a release on the season two or season three DVD set.

That is disappointing! But at least Shout! Factory has a message board, where we can let them know that we want the rarely seen pilot, on the second season! Brian often responds to questions and requests.

It sounds like Shout Factory is aware of the pilot, but couldn't include it because of copyright reasons. If they do indeed release the next two seasons of TPDS on DVD then they'll have two more shots at getting the copyright thing straightened out.

I hope sales are good enough that Shout will release the next two seasons
with more bonus features like promos, commentary, etc.

The Patty Duke show unaired pilot is in the public domain, so it can't have anything to do with copyright issues.

I think it has to do with quality issues. I have yet to see a decent quality copy of the unaired pilot. I bet they don't want to release a crappy quality pilot episode next to 36 perfect quality episodes.

According to an official post from Shout Factory, it is indeed a rights issue for the pilot episode.

http://www.shoutfactory.com/community/1774/thread.aspx

Regardless, I hope it's not because of a quality issue. If they can't find a pristine copy of the pilot then they could just include the best version they could find and put it on one of the discs as an Easter Egg. :)

I doubt it is in the public domain because if it were the dollar stores would be selling it by now.
